James L. Herrell, 76, passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2026, following a brave and valiant battle with cancer.
On May 24, 1950 in Rochester, James Lee Herrell was born to Loyd Delbert and Betty Irene (Smith) Herrell. Jim spent his childhood years with his two brothers, Ron and Steve. He was a proud member of the Rochester High School class of 1968. Following high school patriotism beckoned with Jim answering the call, serving our country with the United States Army, Jim was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and received recognition as a sharpshooter with his rifle.
An accomplished welder, Jim devoted his career to the residential electrical panel welding industry. When not at work, he would be found fishing the Tippecanoe River or hunting the fields for birds and deer. When the need for speed beckoned, Jim would take to the Bunker Hill Dragstrip or Shadyhill Speedway as a driver and mechanic of his favorite dirt cars.
On June 22, 1984, in Howard County, Jim married the love of his life, Mikey Jean Monroe. Together, they enjoyed 26 years of life's adventures. Sadly, Mikey passed away on April 17, 2011.
Left to cherish the memories of Jim are his sons: Loyd Herrell (Patty) of Monterey and Tommy Herrell (Christal) of Moran, TX; brothers: Ron Herrell (Jan) of Kokomo and Steve Herrell of Rochester; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death are his parents, Loyd and Betty Herrell; and his wife, Mikey Herrell.
A celebration of the life of Jim Herrell will be at 12-noon on November 21, 2026, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. Friends may visit his family at 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Military Honors will be accorded at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the United States Army Honors Team.
