Mr. H. Dale Sommers, 71, of Rochester, passed away at 6:15 AM, Thursday, October 1, 2015 at his residence. In Peru, on February 27, 1944, Homer Dale was born to Daniel A. and Beulah F. Lockridge Sommers. Growing up, he shared his childhood with a brother Donald. He attended Woodrow School and graduated from Rochester High School. Passionate about agriculture, Dale pursued a career as a life long farmer. He took great pride in overseeing his farming operation and helping many neighbors and friends. Each spring he climbed aboard his John Deere to turn the soil, plowing and disking in preparations for planting corn, soybeans and sometimes wheat. Crisp autumn weather brought on the bountiful harvest. Dale, with great delight, climbed aboard his combine for the final time last weekend taking a few rounds around the field assisting with the 2015 harvest. Over the years, as a John Deere buff, Dale restored his JD-60, JD-70, the JD-720 and the JD-3010, to pristine condition. He also enjoyed the company of his friends at the "Truck Stop." Each morning he met them to partake of a cup of brew while chatting about the latest local news and solving the world's problems. Dale is lovingly remembered by two daughters: Erica Delgadillo of Fort Collins, CO, Bettina Kay Sullivan and husband Robert of Rochester; a son, Scott Sommers of Rochester; two grandchildren: Alexis L. Delgadillo and Michael A. Delgadillo; a sister-in-law, Karen Sommers of Logansport; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Dale in death are his parents, a granddaughter, Amber Nicole Sutton, a grandson, Tanner John Sutton and a brother, Donald Sommers; Pepper, his faithful Black Lab and Chow custom blend, and Bones, his feline companion. Private family graveside services were held Friday, October 2, 2015, at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. The Good Family Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
