Mr. Herbert C. Minix, 86, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, May 6 , 2018 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

On December 13 , 1931, Herbert was born in Salyersville, KY to Calloway and Easie Kraft Minix.  Growing up as one of nine of the Minix kids he shared his childhood with six brothers and two sisters.  His family moved from Kentucky to the North Judson area during their youth.   In 1951 Herbert graduated from North Judson High School where he played forward for the Blue Jays basketball team.  Following high school he continued his formal education at Purdue University to study engineering. Throughout his life, he was in construction management and was the founding partner of ICON in Aruba.

In the Christian Church of Knox,  Herbert and Dolores Louise Byer were married on October 19 , 1952.  They shared 65 years of life's adventures.  From their union came four wonderful children: Donja, Dennis, David and Dyke.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of three more generations.

In 1977  Herbert was past master of the Knox Masonic Lodge where he served as a 32nd degree mason.  He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of South Bend.

To relax, Herbert enjoyed fishing and camping.  Grandpa Herbert  was most passionate about his family.  As the patriarch of the family he was proud to oversee five generations and his amazing legacy.  He worked for them, took care of them and loved them all to the ends of the Earth.  He treasured the times  they spent making memories.

Left to cherish Herbert's memory are his wife, Dolores;  three sons: Dennis Minix, David Minix, Dyke Minix and wife Carol all of Rochester; a daughter, Donja Minix and fiancé Ray Fitting of Idaho; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grand children; one great-great- grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Herbert in death are his parents Calloway and Easie Minix, two sisters and six brothers.

A celebration of the life of Mr. Herbert C.  Minix will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 12 , 2018 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Friday, May 11 , 2018 and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
