Henrietta
Holcomb
d. Feb 6, 2019
Henrietta A. Holcomb, 86, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 12:29 PM, Wednesday, February 6 , 2019 at Woodlawn Hospital.
On February 22 , 1932, Henrietta Allen was born in Decoy, KY. She was a treasured daughter of Shade and Martha Howard Allen. Growing up she shared her childhood with four brothers.
In Winamac, on September 11 , 1951, Henrietta married the love of her life, Harold Holcomb. They shared 46 years of life's adventures. From their union came three children Brenda, Barbara and Doug. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
Henrietta worked as a machine operator at Torin, now known as Lau Industries of Rochester. She retired in 1994 after 35 years of dedicated service to the company. To relax she enjoyed sitting down with a good book, reading mysteries, love stories, history or biographies.
At home in her kitchen command post Grandma Henrietta enjoyed cooking for the holidays and special family celebrations. She was best remembered for her Italian spaghetti and "Slick Willie bread," which was in most demand. With a generous heart she contributed consistently to a variety of ministries including the Appalachian Fund. Henrietta listened to classic country and loved to shop. A day was always good, shopping at J.C. Penney then enjoying a meal at Cracker Barrel. Her favorite color was purple and she was the proud owner of a unique collection of Boyd's Bears.
Henrietta and her family loved to vacation in Pigeon Forge, Memphis and Dollywood. Many great adventures were made at these locales. As the matriarch of the Holcomb family, Grandma Henrietta was proud to oversee four generations. She adored her grandchildren and treasured the memories they made together.
Left to cherish Henrietta's memory are a daughter, Brenda Conner and husband Daniel; a son, Douglas Holcomb and wife Janet, all of Rochester; son-in-law, Donnie Arnett of Salyersville, KY; six grandchildren: Lucas Conner and companion Jessica Jordan, Joshua Conner, Nathan Conner and wife Kristin, Bryan Holcomb, and Ashley Holcomb; 5 great-grandchildren: Kyle, Hanna, Emma, Logan, and Brendan; a brother, Lawrence Allen and wife Arlene, of Prescott, AZ.
Preceding Henrietta in death are her parents Shade and Martha Allen, beloved husband Harold on April 6 , 1997, daughter, Barbara Arnett November 27 , 2008, and three brothers: Noah Clay, Garland and James.
Private family services were held on Monday, February 11 , 2019, at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18 th St., Rochester. Chaplain Jason See officiated. Interment was in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Electronic expressions of sympathy may be made to her family at www.goodfamilyfh.com .
