Mrs. Helen M. Divine, 91, of Rochester, passed away at 12:12 PM, Wednesday, November 12th, at Woodlawn Hospital. On August 12, 1923, Helen was born in Mishawaka the cherished daughter of Richard and Ossie Foster Morgan. Growing up she shared her childhood with three brothers and a sister. With great pride she graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1941. Helen and Earl W. Divine were married on July 20, 1946 in the First Baptist Church of Mishawaka. They shared nearly 60 years of life's adventures. He passed away on July 6, 2006. Their union produced a beautiful family, a daughter Beth and three sons Steve, Mark and Joel. Over the years five grandchildren have been added to the family tree. As a true farmer's wife, Helen took great pride each year in planting a truck patch garden. Leading the way, gathering the bountiful harvest, she canned and froze the produce for her family's winter time use. Each spring she planted flower gardens that accented the landscape of her home adding splashes of color. At home from her kitchen command post, Helen was best remembered for her standing ribeye roast, mashed potatoes and gravy complimented by her homemade vanilla pudding. No meal was complete without one of her pies in demand, lemon meringue, strawberry - rhubarb or black raspberry. Grandma was remembered for her delicious warm cookies fresh from the oven. In more recent years she enjoyed making muffins and breads from her breadmaker. As a traveler, Helen enjoyed going home to her roots when her family surprised her with tickets to travel to Newtown, Wales, allowing her to visit family while enjoying her heritage. Her dad hailed from Wales while her mother was of Irish heritage. Another memorable vacation escape were her two trips to Hawaii, a destination she loved and appreciated the aesthetic beauty of the islands. A lady of many fine virtures, Helen instilled her belief that education in life is paramount for lifelong success. Active in her church, Helen taught Sunday School, Bible School and sang with her family. Many times she and Earl would combine for duets. Many will remember Helen at church being the "Gum lady," always with a supply of gum she shared with children at church. With a gift for gab, Helen knew no strangers. Kind-hearted and thoughtful she was counted on to send well wishes, notes and cards to friends throughout life. Her penmanship was distinct, nearly perfect. As a caregiver Helen provided care for her father and always looked after her grandchildren. Many times she would pick up the grandkids from activities and take them by Dunkin' Donuts to celebrate the day!
