Harold Gene Hamilton, 66, of Rochester was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away Friday, June 19 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Born on September 29, 1948 in Newport, Arkansas, Harold Gene was the treasured son of Harold Ivan and Maxine Worsham Hamilton. Growing up he shared his childhood with a sister Patricia and a brother Charles. When he was two his family moved from Arkansas to Bremen. With great Lancer pride, Harold graduated with the first class to graduate from LaVille High School in 1966. Following high school, patriotism beckoned and Harold answered the call serving our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In Plymouth on July 20, 1970, Harold married the love of his life and best friend Delores Fleck Hamilton. Together they shared nearly 45 years of life's adventures. From their union came three wonderful children: Christine, Rebecca and Adam. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of eight grandchildren. A successful twenty-five year career in the financial industry, Harold worked for Local Finance at branches in Plymouth, Laporte, Valparaiso, Merrilville and Rochester. For 13 years he was associated with 1st Source Bank in Plymouth. Most recently he enjoyed employment as a professional truck driver with Big G Express traveling around America's Heartland. Some of his stints involved travel to Texas. He retired May 15, 2015 due to declining health. To relax, Harold enjoyed the game of golf. He especially enjoyed the challenges of Mystic Hills and the great courses at Myrtle Beach. Left to cherish Harold's memory are his loving wife Delores at home; two daughters: Christine Hamilton of Denver, CO, and Rebecca Hassenplug and husband Brad of Kewanna; a son, Adam Hamilton and wife Marsha of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren: Tyler Foote, Denver Foote, Jordan Hollar, Dylan Hollar, Melanie Hollar, Ethan Hassenplug, Eli Hamilton, Evan Hamilton; and a brother Charles Hamilton of Rochester. Preceding him In death are his parents, and a sister Patricia Maenhout. Pastor Jim Dillinger will officiate services. Burial will follow at the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth. Military rites will be accorded by the Fulton County Military Honor Guard and the US Army Honor's Team, at the funeral home.
