Mr. Gust "Gussy" Coby, 86, of Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 7:40 AM on Friday, June 21st, at Woodlawn Hospital. On December 10, 1926, Gust Morgan Coby was born in Tippecanoe township of Pulaski County. He was one of eight treasured sons of Otis and Ina D. Reinhold Coby. In 1945 with great pride he graduated from Monterey High School. A talented student-athlete, Gust played basketball and ran track. With a strong agriculture background growing up, Gust was passionate about life on the farm. His dad instilled a strong work ethic. In the early years he hand milked the Holstein herd. With the evolution of technology he transitioned to the milking machines. For many years he oversaw a fine herd of over 100 cows, and a variety of swine. He also planted grains annually. "Gussy" raised game birds, peacocks, pheasants and chickens. An uncle who was always there for his nieces and nephews, Uncle Gust assisted the kids with their 4-H projects. Annually he could be found at the Fulton County 4-H Swine Barn, always sharing tips on grooming and showmanship and helping all of the kids with whatever came up. He was their #1 cheerleader and took great pride in their accomplishments. With his love for our youth, Gust drove the school bus for the Monterey School for a number of years. To relax he would actively attend auctions of all types. He was a member of the Dairy Business Men's Association, Gust is lovingly remembered by five brothers: Alvin Cleo Coby of Rochester, Orval Coby of Leesburg, Curt Coby and wife Marilyn of Culver, Jay Coby and wife Karen of Rochester, Vernon Coby and wife Jean of Culver; and 14 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Gust was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Marvin Coby and Homer Coby. Interment will be in the Leiters Ford Cemetery.
