Obituary

Mr. Glen Leonard Shriver, 82 of Rochester, passed away at 3:20 AM Tuesday, January 8 , 2019 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne.

On September 16 , 1936, Glen was born in Fulton County, the treasured son of Leonard and Luella Smith Shriver.  Growing up he shared his childhood with his sister Bonnie.  In 1956 with great Oriole pride Glen graduated from the Indiana School for the Deaf, in Indianapolis.

At the Westside Church of Christ in South Bend, on June 29 , 1968, Glen married the love of his life,  Alice Joyce Pinckert. They have shared over 50 year of life's adventures.  From their union came two wonderful children Kathie and Sam.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of eight grandchildren.
In 1993, Glen retired from Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis.  This followed more than three decades of service as a senior environmental waste control manager for the company.
With a passion for agriculture, Glen was a life long farmer.  He loved boarding his John Deere 70 to turn the soil each spring making preparations for the planting of the crops on his family's 40 acre farm.  Most usually they planted corn and beans.  He oversaw the livestock with a herd of production hogs.  The family also had  egg laying chickens, goats and cows.   Glen and Alice annually planted a large garden, maintained and enjoyed the bountiful harvest, using the produce for winters use and sharing with friends.
An accomplished angler, Glen was a life member of the Indiana Bass Anglers of Deaf.  He traveled all over the United States to attending fishing tournaments.  He and his family enjoyed cooking outside over the open fire and camping under the starlit skies at tournament events.  He was known as the "King of Euchre," managing to dominate the game to prevail.  To relax he loved to watch Notre Dame football games.
Paramount in his life was his family.   Grandpa Glen was proud to oversee three generations.  He loved the holidays and special family celebrations when everyone would get together, making many memories.  Glen and Alice also attended their grandchildren's 4-H livestock shows and sporting activities,  as one of their top supporters.

Left to cherish Glen's memory are his wife, Alice; a daughter, Kathleen Shriver of Rochester and fiancé Chad Zeigler of Fort Wayne; a son, Sam Shriver and wife Heather of Akron; eight grandchildren: Kristin Woods and companion Joseph McCalla, Kenna Woods, Kaillie Woods, Jamie Zeigler, Jaydin Conley, Jerzey Conley, KC Shriver, and Minda Shriver; two sisters: Bonnie Lake of Swayzee, Mona Pearl Ault of Rochester; a brother-in-law, Butch and Harriett Pinckert; and numerous nieces and nephews.   Preceding Glen in death is his parents.

A celebration of the life of Mr. Glen L. Shriver will be at 1:00 PM on Friday , January  11, 2019, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18 th St., Rochester. Dr. Mark Spencer will officiate. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service in the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation Inc., 30 East 33 rd St. New York, NY 10016.
