On April 4, 2015, Our Heavenly Father received one of his Angels home to him. Gladys A. Shambarger was born on December 26, 1936 a cherished daughter of Daniel and Faye Geiger Powell. Growing up as one of six of the Powell children she shared her childhood with two brothers and three sisters. With great pride she graduated from Macy High School in 1954. On May 16, 1954, in the Macy Methodist Church, Loren Shambarger married the love of his life and best friend, Gladys Powell Shambarger. Together they shared over six decades of life's adventures. From their union came four wonderful children: David, Skip, Beverly and Jean. Over the years the family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, with another on the way in August. They expect the arrival of the fifth generation, a great-great-grandson, in May. An accomplished seamstress, Gladys retired from Hart, Schaffner & Marx in 2000 after a number of years of dedicated service. Always ready to lend a helping hand, she was among the first of the E.M.T's in Miami County in the late 1970's. Gladys was a member of the Macy Firefighter Auxiliary, where she served as the secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Macy Christian Church where she was ready to assist with the ladies aid, baking, cooking and contributing to the cause at hand. The warmth of May brought on one of Gladys' favorite times of the years, mushroom hunting. She enjoyed trekking around woods on the family's farm or going to Michigan in search of the morels. This time of the year also brought on the planting of the truck-patch garden she and Loren planted, maintained and shared the bountiful harvest with family and special friends. Saturday morning was special as Gladys and family dined out enjoying her special request---biscuits and gravy. As the matriarch of the Shambarger family, Granny Gladys was proud to oversee four generations. There was nothing better than visits from the grandkids and the great-grands for they always lit up the room and her life. She looking forward to the holidays and other family celebrations--just getting together was paramount in her eyes. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Loren at home; two sons: David and Susie Shambarger, Loren "Skip" and Janet Shambarger all of Macy; two daughters: Beverly Kay and Dennis Cattin, Jean and Robert Lejeune all of Peru; three sisters: Mary and Henry Miller of Anderson, Nellie and Marion "Pete" Scott of Lake Charles, LA and Carolyn and John Richards of Peru; nine grandchildren: Jim Cattin, Shane Cattin, Daniel "D.J." Cattin and wife Amber, David Shambarger, James "JR" Cattin and wife Tina, Matthew Cattin and wife Hannah, Nikki Shambarger, Michael Shambarger, Ryan Shambarger and wife Laura; fourteen great-grandchildren: Colton, Jordon Miller; Sierra Cattin; Emily, Bridgette, Ryan Cattin; Allison, Crew Cattin, Ethan, Evan, Lennon Shambarger, Conner Bahney, Maddox Martin, Tynnleigh Cattin. Preceding her in death are her parents, two brothers: Dwane E. Powell and John H. Powell, and a great-granddaughter Raygen Cattin. Pastor David Welsh will officiate services. Burial will follow in the Five Corners Cemetery.
