Gladise Mary Johnson Collins, 78, of Rochester passed away at 4:38 pm, Tuesday, January 7th, at Kindred Health Care of Mishawaka, following a short illness. On October 10, 1935, Gladise was born in Winamac to George and Dorthea Osborn Johnson. She attended Watervliet High School in Michigan until her senior year. Moving to Indiana, she graduated from Fulton High School in 1953. Gladise and Melvin R. Collins were married on October 13, 1956 in South Whitley. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2010. Gladise worked most of her life in the Fulton County area; Chamberlins, Marsh Foods, Garver Motors as the office manager, and was co owner of Collins Trash until retiring in 1999. She loved to go to the casino and to play the lotto each week. Gladise is lovingly remembered by two daughters: Cathy Losch and husband Jean Paul, Christine Bryant and husband Gary; son Kenneth Collins and wife Karen, all of Rochester; 7 grandchildren: Adam Zimmerman, Aaron Zimmerman and wife Tara, Kaleigh Collins, Kenzie Collins, Shelby Bryant, Brady Bryant, Julia Losch; 3 great grandchildren: Addisyn Mary Zimmerman, Aaden James Zimmerman, Kendall Nicole Zimmerman; two sisters: Lavonne "Bonnie" Silberman of South Bend, Lavada " Candy" Hayes of Rochester; 2 brothers: Philip Johnson of El Paso, Steve Johnson of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Gladise in death are her parents, her husband, a brother Carl Johnson, and a toddler sister Patricia Johnson, age 2. Pastor Josh Rude will officiate services. Gladise will be laid to eternal rest next to her beloved husband Mel in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
