Gerald "Junior" Feece Jr., 82, 1729 Bancroft Ave., and formerly of Leiters Ford, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Monday at Life Care Center of Rochester. A nearly lifetime resident of Leiters Ford, he was born at Sink Hole, near Delong, on Jan. 27, 1929, to Gerald and Thelma (Robison) Feece. In March 1952 Gerald married his best friend Mable D. Tapron. Their union spanned over 44 years until her passing on Aug. 3, 1996. Junior served our country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. With a strong desire to help others Junior was a proud member of the Aubbeenaubbee Township Fire Department for many years serving them as chief for 20 years. He was also a member of the Leiters Ford United Methodist Church. Junior enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he made at the Oasis in Delong, where he'd gather with his buddies for coffee two or three times each day, and of course catch up on the latest news. On occasion they'd close it down amidst intense and lengthy discussions while solving the world's problems. On Mondays his favorite gathering place was Leiters where he dined with his buddies, enjoying senior meals. Junior was a great storyteller with convincing style he would keep his friends right on the edge - his practical jokes were lively and amazing. To relax Junior enjoyed the camping scene. Taking his pop-up camper, he traveled to most of Indiana's state parks. He also managed to attend the Covered Bridge Festival in Park County for a number of years. At home Junior enjoyed feeding and observing common backyard birds. He was especially intrigued by the hummingbird. Squirrels and deer were also among his favorite visitors to the backyard feeding stations. Being a man of great versatility, Junior enjoyed the varied challenges offered at the Culver Military Academy. He worked as bus driver, plumber and overseeing the powerhouse, naming only a few of his efforts. For almost four years he served Fulton County in the capacity of special deputy. Gerald is survived by his son, Gary W. Feece and wife Anna Rose, Washington; granddaughter Laurie Birchmeier, Plymouth; a special daughter, Debbie Bland, Rochester; and canine companion Susie, a collie-chow mix He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son David Allen Feece, and his brother James Feece. A celebration of the life of Mr. Gerald Feece Jr. is at 10 a.m. today in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Jason See officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral in the funeral home. He will be laid to eternal rest in the Leiters Ford IOOF Cemetery next to his beloved wife Mable. Military rites will be accorded by the Collins-Tasch American Legion Post 399, Monterey, and the Finney-Shilling Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6919, Culver. The last call and bell ringing ceremony will be conducted at the graveside by the Aubbeenaubbee Township Fire Department.
