Mr. Gerald Briney, 83, of Rochester passed away Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 at 3:10 PM at Argos. A lifetime resident of Richland Township, Gerald was born on December 23, 1928, the son of Harry and Eva Stanley Briney. Growing up he shared his childhood with four sisters and a brother. Gerald lived his entire lifetime in the cozy farm home where he was born. As a young man, he acquired his work ethic and values from his dad. After high school, patriotism beckoned him. Gerald was a proud member of the US Army serving during the Korean War. Returning home, he began living the dream, farming in Richland Township. With great pride he bred, raised and oversaw a fine herd of more than 20 Simmental cattle for many years. He also enjoyed firing up the Oliver, plowing and discing the soil in preparation for the planting. The only thing better than planting was reaping the bountiful harvest of the autumn. In the early years Gerald used a team of horses to assist him with the ground preparation and planting. The primary crops were hay, corn, soy beans and wheat. Usually always comfortably attired in his recognizable blue bibs and topped with a Carhartt cap, Gerald embraced life in the country. To relax he observed nature in action, watching the deer, fox, hawks and turkeys and their daily habits throughout the seasons. He also enjoyed taking a ride through the country side---watching the status of the crops, while making mental notes. Gerald is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Jack Town & wife Peg of Leesburg, Janet Bridegroom & husband Tom of Avon, Juanita Yoder & husband John of Middleburg, PA, Judy Evans & husband Mick of Rochester, Marcia Lahman of Rochester, Karen Miller of Rochester, Ed Lewis & wife Betty of Twelve Mile, Jerry Lewis & wife Judy of Rochester, Roxann Murphy & husband Marvin of Rochester, Joyce Hassenplug & husband Charlie of Rochester, Mike Briney & wife Barbara of Rochester, Kimberly Briney-Caudill & husband Kevin of Rochester, David Brown of Rochester, Nancy Tilden & husband Jeff of Akron, Larry Brown of Huntington, and his brother-in-law Fred Brown of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters: Irene Town, Lorine Morgan, Beatrice Lewis, Geraldine Brown & Gertrude Briney in infancy, and a brother Harold Briney. Pastor Mike VanHeyningen will officiate services. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Richland Center IOOF Cemetery Cemetery.
