Mr. Gary Michael Smith, 46, of Rochester passed away  on Monday, January 6 , 2020   at Summit City Nursing Home of Fort Wayne.

In Logansport, on January 11 , 1973, Gary was born to David William and Margaret "Peggy" Ann Miller Smith.  In 1991, he graduated from Rochester High School. He lived his entire life in Fulton County.

Gary struggled with a form of Muscular Dystrophy known as Myotonic Dystrophy. This was exasperated in 2001 by a car-pedestrian accident which gave him permanent brain and knee injury.

As a sports fan, Gary enjoyed watching the Cubs,  the Bears,  Colts and New Orleans Saints.  On the collegiant level he cheered for the Missouri Tigers.  Gary also enjoyed reading Sports Illustrated.  To keep his mind sharp he loved the challenges of solving word searches and  word puzzles.

Left to cherish Gary's memory are  his father, David Smith and wife Rose Marie of Trumansburg, NY; three sisters: Wendy Smith, of LaPorte, Linda Stidham of Rochester,Tiffany Vore and husband Alvie of Corydon; niece and nephew, Madison Vore and Cody Vore of Corydon.

Preceding Gary in death are his mother, Peggy on April 17 , 2002, his brother-in-law, Tyrone Stidham on October 18 , 2012 and his grandparents.

A celebration of the life of  Mr. Gary M. Smith will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 10 , 2020 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18 ^th St., Rochester.   Brother Ron Newcomer will officiate.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
