Gary W. McGee, 77, of Argos, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 9:08 PM on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Elkhart General Hospital.
On December 12, 1946, Gary Wayne was born in Wynne, AR to Arthur Garfield and Allie Kelso McGee. Growing up he was one of the ten McGee children that included six sisters and three brothers.
Gary and Anita Faye Goff were married on January 14, 1966, in Hornersville, MO. They have shared 57 years of life's adventures. From their union came three daughters, Marla Faye, Paula Lynn and Valerie Jo. Two more generations have been added to the family tree with blessings of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
With a strong work ethic, Gary was a group leader at a trailer manufacturing company. A passionate lifetime farmer, he farmed row crops atop his John Deere tractor. His love of the green and yellow initiated his fine collection of John Deere memorabilia. To relax he enjoyed fishing at the pond in the woods by the house. During hunting season, he was on the lookout for deer and squirrel. Gary was a member of New Life Church of Hamlet.
Left to cherish Gary's memory are his wife, Faye; two daughters: Paula Cline of Hamlet and Valerie Gross and husband Christian of Argos; four grandchildren: Michele Phillipy, Gary Parker, Brooklyn Mason, Caylee Mason; two great-grandchildren: Camrun Phillipy, Jamie Phillipy : three sisters: Lucille Morgan of Cedar Bluff, AL, Pat Bonds and husband Earl of Ozark, AR; and Garnett Orman of Forrest City, AR.
Preceding Gary in death are his parents; infant daughter, Marla Faye; six siblings: Dorothy "Tood" Smith, Bookie Smith, Jimmy Smith, Elizabeth Shatwell, Leon McGee and Paulette Detwiler.
A celebration of the life of Gary W. McGee will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester. Pastor George Elder Jr. will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 – 1:00 on Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery of Argos. Memorials may be made to New Life Church, 7460 E. County Road 500 N., Hamlet, IN 46532.
