Florence Partridge, 81, formerly of Rochester, passed away Sunday, December 18th, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor of Hope. Florence was born on August 30, 1930 in Rochester to Lamont and Ruth Elizabeth Weller Guyer. As one of six children, growing up she shared her childhood with three sisters, Mary, Normalee and Marjorie, and two brothers, Harvey and Delbert. Spending her childhood on the farm provided many memorable opportunities. During her school years, Florence was involved with Fulton County 4-H. It was during her high school years that Florence's Duroc hog was selected to go to the State Fair, and with great pride she showed her once again, at the coveted state. In 1948, she graduated from Kewanna High School. On March 6, 1949 Florence and Harrison Leroy Partridge were married. Their union produced a daughter Diane and three sons Gary, Terry and Roger. With a love for the outdoors it was Florence who taught her sons the appreciation of nature and the skills of hunting and fishing. She is remembered for her culinary skills and preparations for the big feast during the holidays. A family tradition, Florence prepared all the dishes with trimmings and awaited the return of her sons to add the pheasant or quail to the menu, depending on their success from their hunting expeditions Thanksgiving morning. The entire family enjoyed the delicacies of the fresh bounty included in the menu, and prepared with love by their Mom. The sparkling waters of Lake Manitou was also home for Florence. An avid fisherman, known as the "Lady of the Lake," Florence knew of the strategic locales and correct depths where fish would await her. Her awareness would usually always lead to her success in landing the limit for catch of the day, blue gill, bass, perch and catfish were the most coveted. When the ice covered the surface of the lake, Florence would head out to skillfully land the fish from the icy waters. An active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Florence was also a member of the Lend-A-Hand Sunday School Class. Her favorite book was the Bible which she read daily until her sight diminished. She also enjoyed books of biblical topics. Florence was an active gardener, always planting flowers that embraced her home that would explode in color throughout the summer season. To relax Florence enjoyed listening to music; her most cherished group was the music by the Purdue Glee Club. She treasured the friendships she garnered at the Senior Center where she enjoyed bingo, cards and keeping up on the latest news. Many will remember the vibrant Florence, the lean profile accompanied by a stylish picture hat strolling about Rochester and greeting all who she met with a warm hello. Florence is lovingly remembered by her daughter Diane Partridge of Indianapolis; 3 sons: Gary Partridge and fiancee' Brenda Robertson of Madison, Terry Partridge and wife Tena of Columbus, and Roger Partridge and wife Nadine of Sedalia, Colorado; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Kistler & husband John. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harrison on March 1, 1981, 2 sisters: Mary Overmyer, Normalee Reynolds; 2 brothers: Harvey Guyer and Delbert Guyer; and two grandsons: Craig Partridge and Wade Bitner. Private family burial will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
