Mrs. Ester Ruth Collins, 92, formerly of Rochester passed away at 11:35 PM, Monday, November 3rd 2014 in Marion. On May 27, 1922, Ruth was born in Newton, IL to Robert and Opal Parker Sylvester. Ester Ruth Sylvester and Carl Edward Collins were married on December 21, 1940 in Oakland, IL. He passed away on July 30, 1995. The Collins family moved to Rochester in 1948 and it was home until Ruth moved to Marion in 2007. While in Rochester, Ruth retired after 20 years of service to Torin Manufacturing Company. Ruth is lovingly remembered by her son, Ronald E. Collins and former daughter-in-law Lottie Norena Collins of Marion; a granddaughter, Dawn Rae (Mabry) Collins; two grandsons: Caleb Lee Mabry and Bryson Allan Mabry all of Gas City; a sister Mildred Hurt of Rochester; two brothers: Gene Sylvester of Arcoln, IL and Jack Sylvester of MO; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Ruth in death are her parents, husband, a grandson Ronald Eric (Rick) Collins, 3 sisters: Louise Sylvester, Betty Thompson, and Evlyne Gamble. A graveside service will be at 2:00 on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery with Pastor Maurice Grindle officiating. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
