Elizabeth Jean "Jeanie" Johnston 81, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at Life Care Center of Rochester, on Saturday, November 7, 2015. On July 24, 1934 in South Bend, Elizabeth Jean "Jeanie" Wenrick was born, the precious daughter of Lawrence Scott and Elizabeth Pecsi Wenrick. She was the second oldest of five children sharing her childhood with Mabel, Ed, Jimmy and John. In March 28, 1981, in Rochester at the First Christian Church, Jeanie married the love of her life Mr. Neil Johnston. Together they shared over 34 years of life's adventures. As a domestic engineer, Jeanie possessed an unparalleled repertoire for home making. A seamstress, she made her children's school clothing and later wedding dresses for her daughters. She embroidered applique accents for pillow cases and crocheted aprons. Crispy fried chicken and steaming chop suey were two of her entree's in demand. Jeanie's Thanksgiving dressing was second to none. The holiday season also brought on another of her specialties making the Hungarian pastry kolache. A holiday tradition was baking chocolate chip cookies with her daughters. There was always time to create some custom Christmas ornaments and other crafts for the holiday season. Grandma Jeanie loved and adored her grandchildren and the great-grandchildren, cherishing the adventures they all shared and time spent together making memories. Left to treasure her memory are her husband Neil Johnston at home; two daughters: MaryJane Glass and "Little Jeanne" Shultz, both of Rochester; a son, James Orisch and wife Lisa of Lake Alfred, FL; four grandchildren: John Leedom, Jason Leedom, Christopher Orish and Kayla Shultz; numerous great grandchildren; a brother, James "Jimmy" Wenrick of South Bend; 2 sister-in-laws: Marcia Wenrick, Myra Darga; and a brother-in-law, Bill Cave of South Bend. Preceeding her in death are her parents, a 2 brothers: Edward S. Wenrick on July 22, 2011, John Wenrick, a sister Mabel Cave, who passed away in late October of 2015, and a niece Beth Wenrick. Pastor Curtis May will officiate services. Burial will follow at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
