Mrs. Eileen D. Boardman,88, formerly of Rochester, passed away at Plainfield Health Care Center, Plainfield, IN on December 7, 2011. Eileen was born in Benton County, on February 17, 1923, to Merle and Irene Bartoo Carlile. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister, Betty and two brothers, Lowell and Wayne. On December 16, 1945, Eileen and Charles C. Boardman were married in Remington. Their union spanned 61 years, producing 4 beautiful daughters, Diane and Janet and the twins, Carol and Karen. The family tree continued to flourish with the addition of three grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The Boardmans moved to Rochester in 1964, coming from Urbana. Eileen and Charles owned and operated their dairy farm south of Rochester. She and Charles milked the morning shift while Charles and the girls handled the afternoon milking chores. She also enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. For many years they enjoyed produce from their garden, canning and freezing the bountiful harvest. Eileen enjoyed sewing, maintaining the yard and cooking for the hired hands after making hay, during the harvest season. To relax Eileen could be found at the game table playing spirited games of euchre and canasta. She read novels and books of romance. Always trim, Eileen was an active member of the Swingin' Dudes square dancers. She and Charles danced the night away all over northern Indiana. She also served as a secretary for the Indiana Soil Conservation Office in Fulton County for over 13 years, from which she retired. As a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Eileen was active in the United Methodist Women's Society and the Grace Women's Guild. Paramount in her life was her family. She looked forward to and enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters: Diane Kay Boardman of Lebanon, Janet Sue Gouldsmith & husband Donald of Clayton, Carol Jean Mann & husband James of Martinsville, Karen Ann Marosz of Holland, MI.; 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Clouse of Rensselaer; nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson and 2 brothers Lowell Carlile. and Wayne Carlile. She will be laid to rest in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
