Mr. Edgar Grandville Wilcox, 94, of Rochester, passed away at 10:26 AM, Monday, November 7 , 2016 at Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester.
On January 1 , 1922, Edgar was born in Tyner. He was the treasured son of Edward Bruce and Viola May Cudney Wilcox.
When patriotism beckoned, Edgar answered the call serving as a rifleman and machine gunner with the US Army during WWII. He earned the distinction of sharp shooter and was honored with a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
In Rochester on September 13 , 1947, Edgar married the love of his life, Juanita Stanton. Together they shared 69 years of life's adventures . From their union came two beautiful daughters, Sharon and Connie. Two more generations have been added to the family tree with six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Edgar cherished the time spent with his family.
The Wilcox's lived in Plymouth for over 50 years and then moved to Rochester in 2002. An entrepreneur and a man of many talents, he enjoyed carpentry and all aspects of building homes. He was also blessed with skills of mechanics. From time to time he flirted with creation of inventions of common household remedies.
Left to cherish Edgar's life are his wife, Juanita; two daughters: Sharon Pribbernow and husband Wayne of Baldwin, MI, Connie Souther and husband David of Rochester; four granddaughters: Jill Kruzick Lehman of Mt. Airy, MD, Lorrie Kruzick of Louisburg, KS, Christina Byrd of Whitehall, MI, Nicole Pribbernow of Baldwin, MI; three grandsons: Nathan Souther of Fort Wayne, Jason Souther or Warsaw, Allen Gates serving overseas with the US Navy; one great granddaughter, Jayden Souther of Fort Wayne; five great grandsons: Ethan and Grant Lehman of Mt. Airy, MD, Caleb Souther of Fort Wayne, Evan Souther of Warsaw, Owen Byrd of Whitehall, MI; and another blessing due to arrive in February of 2017.
Preceding Edgar in death are his parents.
Pastor Don Meyer will officiate services. Military rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Guard.
Interment will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery.
