Obituary

Mr. Douglas A. Scott, 59, of Rochester passed away on September 14 , 2019 near Stevensville, Michigan due to injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
On November 1 , 1959, Douglas Allen Scott was born in Plymouth.  He was a treasured son of Eugene "Scotty" and Virginia Hair Scott.  Growing up he shared his childhood with an older brother Kevin.  In 1978  Doug graduated from Rochester High School where he was a member of the men's  basketball and golf teams.  He continued his formal education studying business at  Ball State University and earning a bachelor of science degree.
In Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Doug married the love of his life, Ellen Sue Harts.  They enjoyed 22 years of life's adventures.  Doug and Ellen were both members of the Indiana Shelby American Automobile Club.  Doug was currently serving as president and as a member of the board of directors.  They enjoyed cruising to car shows in their coveted cherry red Mustang Shelby GT 500 convertible accented with black racing stripes. Then competing with friends.  Summer weekends were spent boating on the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan leaving from the docks at St. Joe, MI.  They truly enjoyed the freedom and relaxation on the waters in their cabin cruiser.
Ellen and Doug also looked forward to a couple of annual excursions to Bradenton, Florida where they embraced the surf, sand and sunshine.  Garage sales, auctions and junking brought them great joy while discovering treasures.  Doug was a 38 year member of the Lake Manitou Elks Lodge.  He served as past Exhalted Ruler.
Left to cherish Doug's  memory are his children: Stephanie Rensberger and husband Rich,  Steven Douglas Scott, Stacy Heckathorn and husband J.D. all of Rochester, Melissa Music and husband Kelly of Peru, Kiley White and husband Daryl of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Justin Baird and wife Ashley, J Heckathorn, Josh Heckathorn and fiance Lindsay, Morgan Conley and husband Kolby, Madison Wolfe, Brendan Dodge, Kendell Music and grand-dog Barkley; six great-grandchildren; and a brother Kevin Scott and wife Lynnette of Warsaw.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Scotty and Virginia Scott and an uncle, Don Hair.
A celebration of the life of Mr. Douglas Allen Scott will be on Friday, September 20 at 11:00 AM.  Pastor Ken Smith and Chaplain Jason See will officiate.  Friends may visit with his family from 4:00 - 7:00 on Thursday and an hour prior to services on Friday .  Burial will follow at Rochester's IOOF Cemetery.
