Mrs. Dortha R. Eads, 78, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 9:07 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester. On June 5, 1935 Dortha Ruth Hopper was born in Rochester, a cherished daughter of Alfred L. and Ruth E. Barts Hopper. As one of seven children, growing up she shared her childhood with five sisters: Martha, Nancy, Carol and Kay, and a brother Garl. With great Zebra pride, in 1953 Dortha graduated from Rochester High School. Near Bruce Lake, William J. Eads Jr. and Dortha R. Hopper Eads were united in marriage on March 7, 1953. Their union spanned over 61 years producing two wonderful children, Julie and Joe. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Enjoying the outdoors, each spring Bill and Dortha would trek to Wisconsin in search of a great harvest of morels. They also enjoyed visits to Florida and fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Annual travels westward to Las Vegas was a favorite destination of the Eads Family. More recently they enjoyed annual excursions to Cozumel to relax in the sun, surf and sand. Summer evenings allowed time for tooling around the sparkling waters of Lake Manitou on their pontoon, as the sunset painted the canvas of the skies. There was nothing quite like relaxing observing nature and seeing friends along the shoreline. To relax Dortha loved to read novels and books of romance. She was a talented bowler, letting many good times roll. As the proud matriarch of the Eads family, Grandma Dortha oversaw four generations. The holidays, especially Christmas, were special times spent with family, making many memories. From her kitchen command post Dortha made the BEST chicken and noodles and crispy thin peanut brittle as two of her many family favorites. Dortha is lovingly remembered by her husband William "Bill" Eads; a daughter, Julie Ann Anderson and husband Kenny of Rochester; a son, Joe Eads and wife Lisa of Nashville, TN; 5 grandchildren: Mitchell Anderson, Lindsey Berlin, Tyler Anderson, Chase Eads, David Lowe; 2 great grandchildren: Addelyn Berlin and Avery Berlyn; three sisters: Nancy Clay and husband Dick, Kay Payne, Barbara Swihart and husbnad Bob; and a sister-in-law, Edna Mae Bedford, all of Rochester. Preceding Dortha in death are her parents, 2 sisters: Martha West,and Carol Coleman; and a brother Garl Hopper. Rev. Maurice Grindle will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery
