Dorothy L. Horn, 96, of Rochester passed away at 5:50 AM on Monday, April 8 at Hickory Creek of Rochester. Born on August 14, 1916, in Logansport, Dorothy L. Tobey was the precious daughter of Victor and Lucy Edith Porter Tobey. Growing up she shared her childhood with her brother Howard. In 1935, with great Hickory pride she graduated from Talma High School with her class. On October 17, 1936, Dorothy and Clarence Wilbur Horn were married in Bremen. Together they enjoyed 36 years of life's adventures and they raised two wonderful children, Jack and Carolyn. He preceded on November 3, 1972. For over a half century, Dorothy was a loyal and devoted member of the Church of Christ. She was also a member of the lady's Bible study class. Years earlier she was active in Newcastle Township's Better Homes Club. During the years that the family spent on the farm, Dorothy oversaw and maintained a couple of chicken houses, caring for the laying hens, feeding and gathering eggs. Each week the chickens would produce several cases of eggs. Dorothy loved children and after she moved to Rochester in August of 1959, she provided child care from her home, caring for preschoolers and toddlers. Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her daughter Carolyn Metzger of Greenwood and her son Jack Horn and wife Helen of Akron; four grandchildren: Jeffrey J. Horn, Pamela M. McCoy & husband Joseph, Daniel Metzger & wife Heidi, and Lisa Reed & husband Dion; 10 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Betty Horn; special friends: Sheri Woods and Helen Cramer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 36 years Clarence Wilbur Horn, and a brother Howard Tobey. Pastor Jim Dillinger will officiate services. Interment will be in the Mentone Cemetery.
