Dorothy A. Brown Bixler, 80 of 99 Scott Street, Athens passed away at 9:18 p.m. Friday at the Chase Center of Logansport. She was born on October 11, 1930 in Kokomo to Robert Avert and Grace Garner Brown. Growing up in Richland township, Dorothy shared her childhood as one of nine children with seven brothers Joe, George, Ira, Lee, Kenneth, John and Max and a sister Grace Marie. She was a proud member of the Richland Center High School graduating with her class in 1948. Just over two years later in Fulton, on June 11, 1950 Dorothy married her best friend and love of her life George W. Bixler. Their marriage spanned nearly 56 years till his unexpected passing On March 10, 2006. After high school Dorothy entered the workforce at the Topps Manufacturing for about 10 years. She worked many years at Chamberlin Products as their office manager. After retiring for a short period of time, she returned to Wen Products. Dorothy was a devoted member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener planning the planting of the flower beds so that each season offered constant blooms from a variety of flowers. She and George shared the joys of planting the vegetable annual garden and harvesting it's yield each summer. Dorothy loved to mow and was happy mowing and keeping her yard well manicured. To relax she could be found at Quick's Lanes, bowling on the first shift Wednesday night Hoosierette league. Her team, was known as "Digger's Delight." Dorothy is lovingly remembered by: her sister Grace Marie Miller, Rochester, 3 brothers Kenneth Brown, Rochester, John Brown and wife Neva, Russell, KY and Max Brown and wife Deloris of Lake Palestine. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, George Robert Brown, Ira Brown, Lee Brown, and Joe Brown and his wife Bonnie. A celebration of the life of Mrs. Dorothy A. "Dot" Bixler will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester. Rev. Phil Pratt will officiate. Friends may visit with Dorothy's family from 4:00 - 8:00 on Tuesday and an hour prior to her services. She will be laid to eternally rest next to her beloved husband George at the Athens-Hoover Cemetery.
