Obituary

Doris Jane Harrison, 90, of Nyona Lake passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 23rd, at her home. Born in Armstrong Township, Pennsylvania, on May 7, 1923, Doris Jane was the precious daughter of Smith E. & Melissa Householder Klingensmith. An avid roller skater, Doris and her future husband enjoyed the rink. Doris and George Arthur Harrison were married in Rosston, PA on August 26, 1940. Together they shared 43 years together and raised two wonderful children, Bob and Paula. The family tree flourished with the added blessings of 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Moving from Kokomo to Nyona Lake about 30 years ago, Doris and George loved cruising the sparkling waters of the Lake. The sunsets were breathtaking, and there was nothing more relaxing than fishing beneath the bridge on their boat. Doris could be seen with her trusty casting rod reeling blue gill and crappy---making the catch of the day! George and Doris planted a garden annually that produced a bountiful harvest each autumn. Doris would freeze and can the produce for use in the winter and to share with special friends and family. Following the death of her beloved husband, George, Doris and Herb Humphries became special friends. They shared nearly 25 years of life's adventures until his passing a few years ago. Enjoying nature, Doris was a friend to hummingbirds, orioles and finches, feeding them thru the year and observing their habits. To relax she read books of romance. Always beside her was her feline companion and heart cat, Maxie a long-haired tuxedo colored kitty. Doris was a member of the Manitou Moose Family Center and the Eagles Ladies Auxillary. A proud Grandma, and matriarch of five generations, Doris loved and cherished the time spent with her family. Hosting the family dinners, her specialties in demand was her brown sugar pudding and her refreshing cottage cheese --pineapple salad. At the holidays, Grandma Doris' Christmas candies were second to none. Chocolate covered cherries, turtles, maplenut, walnut and peppermint patties were delicious treats to be remembered. Doris is lovingly remembered by her daughter Paula Del Vecchio and fiance Dan Hartman of Rochester; her son Robert "Bob" Harrison and wife Nancy of Kokomo; 7 grandchildren: Ryan Del Vecchio, Heidi Harrison, Brian Stonebraker, April Marley, Scott Stonebraker, Chris Stonebraker, Danny Harrison; 10 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband George 1983, a granddaughter Holly Harrison and her special friend Herb Humphries.
