Obituary

Donna Fern O'Dell, 93, of Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester, passed away at 12:58 PM, Monday, August 22nd, 2011 in Logansport. Donna was born in Fort Wayne on June 15, 1918 to James T. and Mary Smith Rhoda. Donna was a proud member of the Rochester High School class of 1937. In 1944, Donna and John W. Gray were married in Akron. They were married 10 years. Later, James "Digger" O'Dell and Donna were married in 1958. Their union of 42 years produced a beautiful daughter Linda. Donna's primary work was as a loving mother and devoted housewife. She worked outside the home for the Rochester Telephone Company for 17 years, prior to the arrival of becoming a mom. During her telephone years she was operator assistant and later became the chief operator. She retired in 1959 to spend time raising her family and being a wife. Hobbies enjoyed during her youth were dancing and traveling. More recently she enjoyed reading novels of romance, and watching movies especially comedies and mysteries. She was a loyal lifetime member of the First Christian Church, Rochester. Donna is remembered for sense of humor and caring for others putting their needs before her own. She greeted friends and family with a warm smile that was contagious. Hallmark's Maxine was her heroine---Donna felt she reflected many of the same attributes with her spunk. Donna is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda Beckman and husband Rob of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Digger in 2000, a brother, Jack Adams, a sister-in-law, Helen Adams and 3 sisters in infancy. A celebration of the life of Donna O'Dell will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 26, 2011 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester with Pastor Mike VanHeyningen officiating.
