Mrs. Donna Belle Grossman, 84, of Rochester , passed away at 10:35 AM, Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Donna Belle was born in Warsaw, Indiana on December 23, 1926, from the union of Ralph and Genevieve McGriff Warren. As a youngster she shared her childhood with three sisters, Phyllis, Bonnie and Carolyn. With great Bulldog pride, Donna Belle graduated from Mentone High School in 1945. On October 7, 1945, near Mentone, Donna Belle married her best friend and love of her life, Leroy Grossman. It was deemed a true love as on their first date, a blind date, Leroy's horse and buggy encountered an accident. Their union of nearly 61 years produced three children, a son Larry and two daughters Sandra and Connie Jo. Over the years the family tree flourished. As the matriarch of the family Donna Belle was thrilled to oversee five generations. This rare opportunity all came about with the birth of little Caiden. With an intense love for our Lord and her church, Donna Belle served the Riverview Community Church in a number of capacities during her years of membership. She was Sunday School teacher for the pre-school class, a member of the Keenagers group, past treasurer and clerk. She also taught Bible School and made cookies. Donna Belle was also a half century member of T.H.E. home economics club. An avid reader, Donna Belle had a vast interest in an array of authors. Her favorite were those authored by the Amish. Well known for her culinary expertise, she is best remembered for her cookie baking. Family favorites were oatmeal, chocolate chip and Pinocchio Chews. To relax Donna Belle enjoyed taking her casting rod back to the family's pond and landing blue gill, the catch of the day. Setting at the table she enjoyed spirited games of canasta. In the early years on the family farm, Donna Belle was there to assist Leroy in a number of capacities, being the nearly perfect and devoted farmers wife. Whether it was chores with their livestock, driving rounds with the tractor or running lunch to the side of the field Donna Belle was always where the action was, in the thick of things. Dedicated and loyal to her entire family, Donna Belle prayed daily for her family and lived by example, in a close relationship with the Lord as her savior. Each spring she and Leroy planned and planted a beautiful garden. The bountiful harvest was shared with family and special friends. From mission control in her kitchen, Donna Belle canned much of the harvest, including veggie soup, tomato juice, beets, tomatoes, peaches and a variety of jams. Donna Belle is lovingly remembered by 2 daughters, Sandra K. Tucker and husband John of Fort Wayne, Connie Jo Parish of Tipton; 3 sisters, Phyllis Miller and husband Lloyd of Goshen, Bonnie McCloughan and John of Greensburg, KY, Carolyn Church and husband Bill of Angola; 7 grandchildren, Kurt Powell, Tonya Norman, Tammy Tucker, Tracy Tucker, Todd Parish, Cory Parish, David Parish; 10 great grandchildren, Aleisha, Joshawa, Crystal, Logan, Trevan, Taylor, Ashlee, Mason, Riley, and Malych; 1 great great grandson Caiden; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who also survive. Donna Belle was welcomed in Heaven by her parents, husband Leroy who passed on February 27, 2006, a son Larry A. Grossman who passed on February 16, 2004, 2 sisters, Marjorie Ervin and Martha Parker, and many church family and friends she made along life's journey. Donna Belle will be laid to eternally rest next to her beloved husband Leroy in the Maple Grove Cemetery Argos.
