Obituary

Mr. Donald Eugene Rans, 82, of 1326 Madison St. Rochester, passed away Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Don was born in Culver, IN on June 19, 1929, to Fred and Lela Robinson Rans. With an intrigue for speed, Don enjoyed NASCAR racing. His favorite drivers were the Earnharts, Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. and Tony Stewart. A frequent visitor to the Plymouth Speedway he once was officially introduced to Tony Stewart there. Don also loved horses of all kinds and attended many horse pulling events around northern Indiana. He could be seen among the crowds at the horse auctions in Shipshewana. Keeping abreast with the breaking news was always foremost on Don's mind. Being locked on Fox, CNN and HLN were his favorites keeping him on the cutting edge. It was with great pride that Don wore his "Obama" ball cap as an avid supporter of our President. During the Gene Keady era, he cheered for old gold and black going wild for the Boilermakers. Some of his best times were spent making memories with his Granddaughter Abigail Pauline, as they cruised on their custom made gold cart around their property in the country. Whenever Ron and Penny needed a hand Don was always there to assist them. Don is lovingly remembered by a son, Ron Shireman & wife Penny of Rochester; a granddaughter: Abigail Pauline Shireman; a nephew; Robert Rans and wife Julie of Plymouth; great-nephew and niece: Dustin and Lacey Rans. Numerous cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Dean Rans. Don will be laid to eternally rest on the family plot at the Leiter's Ford Cemetery .
