Mr. Donald D. Koons, 72 of 525 Pontiac St. Rochester, passed away at 10:05 PM on Wednesday, November 2, 2011at his residence, following a short illness. He was born in Cass County on December 12, 1938 to Carl and Leone Bunnell Koons. On December 21, 1979 Don and Marsha Renfroe Cloud were married, she survives. Don spent 15 years in the Air Force. He was an instructor for the flight control systems for 9 years and then went to Okinawa as a missile systems analyst. He later transferred to Cryptographic repairman school. After leaving the Air Force in 1972, he worked for various instrument companies. In 1981 he became a field representative for Fischer and Porter in Indianapolis. Then in 1985 , Fischer and Porter transferred Don and Marsha to Kalamazoo, MI, where they spent 19 years until his retirement in 2004. In 2004 they returned to their home town of Rochester to be close to family. Don was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Am Vets. He was a Golden Age of the Eagles. He was greatly loved by his 4 cats; Pooch, Gopher, Bunny, and Wolf. He also enjoyed sudoku's, crosswords, golf and bowling. Surviving with his wife are 2 daughters, Pamela Hammel of Rochester, Donna Koons of TX, and 4 sons: Keith Koons of TX, Mike Cloud and wife Laura, Jeff Cloud and wife Deb, Ty Cloud and wife Rita, all of Rochester, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a sister Mary Barnett of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Marilyn Garvison and Maxine Badger.
