Mr. Don  Douglass,  86, of Kewanna, was surrounded by his loving family when he  passed away at 5:40 AM Tuesday, January 10 , 2017 at Miller's Merry Manor of Logansport.

On January 26 , 1930, near Grass Creek, Elmer Jay "Don" Douglass was born. He was the treasured son of Elmer F. and Nola J. Burton Douglass. Growing up he shared his  childhood with a sister, Dorothy and a brother Dale.  With great Panther pride, Don graduated in 1948 from Grass Creek High School where he was a basketball standout.  Recruited by a few colleges for his basketball prowess, Don elected instead to serve his country as a member of the United States Marines during the Korean War.

At the Lucerne Christian Church, on July 12 , 1953, Don married the love of his life, Nancy Winn. As best friends they  shared over 63 years of life's adventures.  From their union came four handsome sons, Neil, Jeff, Scott and Craig.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

With a lifelong passion for farming, Don was proud to oversee a fine herd of 20 Holsteins.  He also  enjoyed  raising corn and beans.  Don  was dedicated to the road construction  business with a career of more than three decades working for McMahan-O'Connor and the  E & B Paving Companies.  He retired in 2005, serving many of those years as a superintendent.

A faithful member  Lucerne Christian Church for over sixty years,  Don was Deacon Emeritus and a trustee.  He was a member of the Kewanna Volunteer Fire Department and  the  Rochester Elk's Lodge #2120.  As a  Fulton County 4-H leader, Don shared his expertise of tractors with members on driving instruction, basic mechanics and  maintenance.

To relax, Don enjoyed fishing with his cane pole.  Many special memories were made  with his family while fishing in Chetek, Wisconsin.  A sports buff, Don was an avid fan of the Purdue sports teams.  Grandpa Don loved the company of his grandchildren.  He looked forward to the holidays, special family celebrations and of course was always present courtside or in the stands following the grandchildren's sporting events.

Left to cherish Don's memory are his  wife, Nancy;  four sons: Neil Douglass and wife Angie, Jeff Douglass and wife Mindy  all of Kewanna, Scott Douglass and wife Karla of Coral Springs, FL, Craig Douglass and wife Cindy of Twelve Mile;  eleven grandchildren: Candy Field and husband Justin of Kewanna, Camile Zimpleman and husband Greg of Fulton, Anna Holmes and husband Collin of Logansport, Josh Douglass and wife Tiffany of Brazil, Kristin Horn and husband Travis of Rochester, Christine Medina of Coconut Creek, FL, Melissa Cole and husband Guy of Austin, TX, Morgan Douglass  and fiancé Raymond Caraballo of Orlando, FL, Emily Douglass of Nashville, TN, Quentin Douglass of Twelve Mile, Eli Douglass  of Twelve Mile;  fifteen great-grandchildren: Coy, Carter and Caleb Field, Addison, Parker and Marshall Zimpleman, Layne and Tanner Horn, Madisyn, Drew and Lucas Douglass, Josh Diaz, Aaron and Angelo Rodrique and Aleah Medina; a sister,  Dorothy Richter and husband Harry of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.   Preceding Don in death are his parents, an infant great-grandson Trey Douglass Horn, and a brother Dale Douglass.

Pastor Dirk Raderstorf will officiate services.  Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Military rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran Honor Guard and the US Marine Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
