Obituary

Dixie Reed, 81, of Rochester, passed away at 08:35 AM, Wednesday, November 1 , 2017 at her residence.

In Warsaw, Dixie Linn was born on September 30 , 1936.  She was a treasured daughter of  Merl and Elsie Robbins Linn. Growing up she shared her childhood as the second oldest of the three Linn sisters.  With great bulldog pride Dixie graduated from Mentone High School in 1954.

On June 1 , 1956, in the Mentone United Methodist Church , Dixie married Jerry J. Reed. They shared nearly 53 years of life's adventures. Sadly, he passed away on January 28 , 2009. Their union produce two beautiful daughters, Kim and Brenda. Over the years the blessings of two more generations have been added to the family tree.

As a homemaker, Dixie cherished time with her family. Watching the birds throughout the seasons was intriguing and entertaining. Her favorite, the cardinal, kept her busy filling the feeders while keeping the pesky squirrels at bay. To relax she enjoyed reading a good romance novel.

As the matriarch of the Reed family, Grandma Dixie was proud to oversee four generations.  She was a loving wife, a mother who adored her daughters, and a grandmother who cherished her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.  Remembered by her family as an extraordinary cook,  their favorite dishes in demand was her creamed cabbage and steaming beef and noodles.

Dixie will be lovingly remembered by two daughters: Kim Sheehy, and Brenda Ponto and husband Kurt all of Rochester; four grandchildren: Megan Bailon and husband Dwayne, Nick Ponto, Alex Sheehy, Brandon Sheehy; three great grandchildren: Amelia Ponto, Madeline Bailon, Sophia Sheehy; a sister, Linda Montel  and husband Roger of Mentone; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dixie in death are her parents, husband, son-in-law Timothy Sheehy, and a sister, Donna Romine.

Chaplain Jason See will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
