Mr. Daughton Dancy, 94 years 7 months and 28 days departed this life at 4:54 PM, on March 5 , 2019.  He was surrounded by his loving family when passed away  at his daughter's home.

On July 7 , 1924, Daughton was born in Springdale, NC to Grover Cleveland and  Lutisha Sizemore Dancy.  As one eight children he grew up with five brothers and two sisters.

When patriotism beckoned Daughton answered the call serving with the United States Army during World War II.  He was inducted on July 8 , 1943.  During his stint of service he was an infantryman involved with the battle of New Guinea. He was later stationed in Australia.  His awards include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon.    He was discharged honorably on March 31 , 1946.

Daughton and Wilma C. Cole were married in 1947, she passed away in 1953.  Several years passed, then  Daughton and Evelyn M. Willey were married in 1958, she passed away in 1976.  From his unions came a beautiful family of six daughters and four sons.

Skilled with his hands, Daughton was an accomplished diesel mechanic.  He once converted a school bus into a camper.  He loved tinkering with all types of engine work helping friends and neighbors in his garage.   Daughton  was gifted as a woodworker creating games and custom canes as gifts.  Always at his disposal was his trusty pocket knife, sharpening block and scissors that he carried in his signature "Key" bibs.

For many years he lived on the shores of the legendary Tippecanoe.  It was here that he embraced nature and observing the change of the seasons.  A great afternoon might be just relaxing under the shade trees and watching the fish swim in the river.  Daughton especially loved to observe the flight and activity of the hummingbirds.  Attending auctions especially those called by Phil Thompson or Don Gray were among his greatest way to relax and find treasures.  The weekend wasn't complete without a junior bacon cheeseburger and cup of coffee from Wendy's. As a proud Grandpa overseeing five generations Grandpa Daughton was delighted with visits during special  family celebrations and at the holidays  making many memories.  He also enjoyed traveling around to visit them all between times.

Daughton will be lovingly remembered by five daughters: Rene Atkinson of Glen Morgan, WV, Linda Kline, of Shively, KY, Della Cole of Glen Morgan, WV, Debbie Cubberley and husband Richard of Westville, Judith Dancy, of Rochester; four sons: Gary Dancy and wife Dyann of Nova Scotia, Canada,  Roger Dancy and wife Diana of Bedford, KY,  Michael Dancy and wife Teresa of Ligonier, Thomas Dancy and wife Doris of Leiters Ford;  61  grandchildren, great-grandchildren,  great-great-grandchildren; and his devoted canine companions:  Cyrus the 17 year old special custom blend , and Lola and Sadie the Mulshipoo twins.

Preceding Daughton in death are his parents Grover and Lutisha Dancy; wives  Wilma and Evelyn; daughter Louann A. McLean on July 10 , 2002;  two grandsons: Dustin Bragg and Clinton Kline;  a granddaughter,  Michelle Atkinson in 1989; the five Dancy brothers: Joe, Carl, Bazel, Paul, and James; and two sisters: Ozel Coon and Lou Emma.

Pastor Tracy McCutcheon will officiate services.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team.  Interment will be in the Leiters Ford  IOOF Cemetery.
