Craig C. Cowie, 73, of Claypool, IN (formerly of Wakeman, Ohio) passed away on Dec. 16, 2023 at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester, IN with his loving wife Deb at his bedside. This followed a valiant battle with dementia the last few years.

On October 7, 1950, Craig Charles Cowie was born in Lorain, Ohio. He was a cherished son of James and Laura Eddy Cowie. Growing up he shared his childhood with his identical twin, Christopher Emmett. A stellar athlete for the Lorain Steelmen track team, Craig set records in the field events of pole vaulting and at the high jump. With great pride he graduated in 1968 from Lorain High School.

With a strong work ethic, Craig retired from U.S Steel after 30 years of service and then worked at Dixie Pipe Sales in Lorain. Craig loved sharing his knowledge and expertise working on and restoring classic cars and machines. He proudly showed his 1957 Chevy Bel Air and his 1967 GTO at shows and festivals for many years.

With an appetite for adventure and a love for Lake Erie, Captain Craig operated a Charter Fishing Business with his twin brother, Chris, and friend, Jack Watling, for 18 years. The crew of "The Lake Erie Hooker," took many clients on fishing expeditions who experienced great success. He participated in recreational softball and bowling leagues and reminisced about the track and field events he participated in during his early years. Craig looked forward to the camaraderie of a hunting or fishing trips with  friends Bill and George, organizing fish fries, and enjoyed the company of his dogs throughout his life.

On June 29, 2010, Craig married Deborah L. Rector at a ceremony in Vermillion, Ohio. In retirement he relocated to Yellow Creek Lake and appreciated time fishing, enjoying the lake views, watching the sunset, and taking friends and family for pontoon boat rides.

Deb and Craig enjoyed traveling Route # 66 while sightseeing in 14 states. Some of his favorite memories included Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore and the Badlands National Park. They also made many memories cruising around the Caribbean soaking in the sun and a unique cultural atmosphere.

Left to cherish Craig's memory are his wife of 13 years, Deborah; a daughter, Heather (Cowie) Shive and husband Jared, and granddaughter, Roselyn, of Louisville, Ohio; his blended family: daughter Amber Brandt and husband Richard of Eatonville, Washington; 4 grandchildren: Tiffany Miller, Danielle Ross and husband Travis, Brooke Bright and husband Ashton and Richard Brandt Jr.; 3 great-grandchildren: Ledger Bright, Rudy Bright, Sunny Ross and a new great-grandson in February of 2024; 2 sisters-in-law: Linda Cowie of Grafton, Ohio and Donna Eden Claypool; and many nieces and nephews including Chris Cowie, Junior.

Preceding Craig in death his wife of 28 years, Rosemarie Cowie; parents, James and Laura Cowie and twin brother, Christopher Cowie.

With respect to Craig's wishes he will be cremated with a private family ceremony at a later date.
