Our Dear Mother and Grandmother, Cheryl Ann " Cheri" Zemanek  Kennedy, 63, of Peru completed her life's journey and left her Earthly home, ascending to Heaven on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Duke's Hospital with her loving family by her side.  Our hearts were broken, and we didn't want to let her go.

On July 12, 1960, Cheri was born in Scottsbluff, NE to Glen Marvin and Marge Smith Zemanek. She attended school in Scottsbluff, NE, Holyoke, CO and Mitchell, NE where she graduated with the Class of 1978.

In 1979, Cheri married Richard "Rick" Kennedy and later divorced in 1997. To this union, she was blessed with her Sonshine Adam Lee Kennedy and her Rosebud Rebekah Ann Kennedy.

Mom was the most loving mother, granddaughter, daughter, sister and aunt. She was always there to lend a hand, even when she fell ill in 2005. She worked at Sugar Shack in Mitchell during high school, Alexander's Super Market and held many different jobs while raising her children before retiring from Delphi Electronics in Kokomo.

She loved the sun, gardening, cooking, photography and sewing. She also loved researching genealogy and volunteered on findagrave.com. She believed nobody should ever be forgotten.  "What we keep in memory, is ours unchanged forever." You will find thousands of photos online that she took to commemorate other families.  During her journey through many states and countries she came in met many wonderful people, far too many to name, but she loved them all.

Cheri awaits in Heaven for those to complete their life's journey; her children Bekah and Adam, three grandchildren, Skylee, Melanie, Alyssa; companion, Eric Robert Giek; nephew Jared Zemanek; niece Stefanie Zemanek and stepmother, Judith Widmaier.

Preceding Cheri in death are her father, Glen Marvin Zemanek; mother, Marge Ann Currens; three brothers: Randy Dale Zemanek, Christopher Lee McArthur, Sean Anthony McArthur; grandparents Dale and Margaret (Gartman) Zemanek, Sarah Elizabth (Rutz) Warren and Alvin Delbert Smith; and her beloved lab, Jakee Boy. She rescued him, but he saved her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  The vessel she used in her journey has been cremated. She said she lived most of her life in a box and will be freed and released from her pain to soar. Her wishes are to be remembered in a memorial to celebrate her life, not her death.
