Charles Edward Morgan, 98, 5578 N. 100 West, Rochester, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Monday at Life Care Center of Rochester. He was born in Fulton County, on Dec. 19, 1912, to Hiram and Lottie (Holloway) Morgan. As a youngster, Charlie shared his childhood with a sister and two brothers. He was one of Richland Center High School's oldest living graduates. On Oct. 26, 1932, Charles and Lura L. Warner were married in Valparaiso. Their union of 66 1/2 years produced four children: a son, Fritz, and three daughters, Sonja, Patricia and Lori. As the family's patriarch, and with great pride, Charles oversaw the development of four generations. Always at home on the farm in Richland Township, Charlie and Lura bred and milked a fine herd of Holsteins. As a member of the American Breeders Association, and teaming with Bob Bridge, Charles was among the first to utilize methods of artificial insemination for reproduction in our area. The vast opportunities provided on the farm allowed Charles to express and instill a solid work ethic to his children and grandchildren. This was a key ingredient for lifelong success. In addition to livestock, the Morgan family planted and harvested beans, corn and wheat annually. Charlie loved the smell of fresh mown hay and achieved great satisfaction making the bales. Sharing his passion and appreciation for agriculture, Charlie was a lifelong supporter and sponsor of Fulton County 4-H Clubs. Remembered as being a great neighbor, there to always lend a helping hand, Charlie was loyal to his friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Richland Center United Methodist Church for over 75 years. A sports booster, Charlie enjoyed helping the community youth with endeavors of girls softball and church activities. As an outdoorsman, revving up the chain saw and chopping wood in the back fields allowed Charlie to embrace nature. He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed observing and feeding common wildlife as they graced his family farm. Charles will be lovingly remembered by three daughters, Sonja Mow and husband Phillip, Nashville, Tenn., Pat Huppert and husband Gary, Rochester, and Lori Schoen and husband Bobby, Rochester; daughter-in-law Joyce Morgan, Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Kim Golden, Nashville, Mike Morgan and wife Mary Beth, Murray, Ky., Leslie Osucha and husband Stephen, Newark, Del., Lisa Johnson and husband Richard, Nashville, Stacy Huppert, Nashville, Kari Riggle and husband Jason, Nashville, Melisa Lahman and husband Kyle, Rochester, and Brody and Zac Schoen, both of Rochester; seven great-grandchildren, Luke and Megan Golden, Phillip and Morgan Johnson, Aaron Meiser, Mackenzie Lahman, and Chase Riggle; sister-in-law Lorine Morgan, Rochester; and brother-in-law Keith Warner and wife Barbara, Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lura on April 26, 1999; son Fritz Morgan on June 6, 2006; and one sister and two brothers. A celebration of the life of Mr. Charles E. Morgan is at 10 a.m. Friday at the Richland Center Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Nunemaker officiating.
