Catherine "Kate" D. Herrell, 82, of Rochester, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. On February 26, 1931, Catherine Delia was born in Fulton, the precious daughter of Clark and Helen Fry Wright. Growing up as one of eight children she shared her childhood with three sisters and four brothers. Loyd D. Herrell and Kate fell in love and married. Their union spanned over a half century. Together they raised four handsome sons. Over the years the family tree grew with the added blessings of 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. As a young lady, Kate worked as an accomplished seamstress at Hart-Schaffner-Marx for over thirty years until their closing. For a number of years, with a grandma's touch she was a child care specialist. She also enjoyed helping others by custom cleaning of their homes. Kate worked at Sider's Blueberry Farm assisting them with the harvest. A passion for blueberries herself, she made pies, jams and enjoyed a juicy bowl to eat topped with milk. A perfectionist and lady of perpetual motion Kate was always manicuring the landscape of her home. Planting flowers to accent the landscape, digging the grass out from the sidewalk cracks or shoveling snow, with great determination, nothing stopped her. With great pride she owned a unique collection of teddy bears. To relax, she enjoyed taking a walk usually striding off between 4 - 5 miles each day. As a proud matriarch of the Herrell family, Grandma Kate oversaw 4 generations. She looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and the great-grandchildren. Her grandsons always dropped by after school for visits with their friends. Grandma always had something good to eat. Their favorites where her chicken nuggets and cherry cheesecake. An avid sports grandma, Kate attended all of her grandchildren's sporting events and enjoyed cheering for Scott's 5th grade basketball team. Kate is lovingly remembered by her 4 sons: Scott Herrell and wife Michelle and their children Travis and Jeffrey of Rochester, Ron "Butch" Herrell and wife Jan and their children Amy and Ryan of Kokomo, Steve Herrell and his children Constance and Aaron of Rochester, Jim Herrell and his children Loyd and T.J. of Rochester; numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Lutz and husband Don of Culver; a sister-in-law, Sadie Miller of Rochester; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, and six siblings: Francis Smith, Roscoe Beerwert, Daisy Brown, Walt Miller, William Miller, and Arthur Miller. Pastor Terry Baldwin will officiate. Interment will be in the Riverside Memorial Cemetery of Monterey.
