, 1932, Carole Grace Potter was born. She was a cherished daughter of Foster Charles and Grace Anne Ackley Potter. During her childhood the Potter family moved to Pennsylvania. In 1950 Carole graduated from Westfield High School in Westfield, PA.
At Rochester's Presbyterian Church, on Sept. 1, 1967, Carole G. Potter and Harold Edward "Ernie" Young were married.
Together they shared nearly 50 years of life's adventures.
Over the years, the family tree grew with the added blessings of seven grandchildren.
With a strong work ethic, Carole worked at
Harts-Shaffner-Marx
. The next decade she was dedicated to
Moore's Business Forms as a line supervisor
. Transitioning to the cafeteria scene, Carole prepared meals for the Rochester High School Zebras.
A woman of great faith, Carole was a member of Rochester's First Christian Church for decades. She was a charter member of the Manitou Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary # 1107 and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Life-long learners with a passion for reading, Carole and Ernie shared a library collection that surpassed three thousand books. She especially enjoyed reading mysteries and novels. Savoring the humanities, Carole loved attending plays in Chicago with Camelot being memorable. She enjoyed singing and dancing. With a vast appetite for music, she relaxed by listening to many her favorite singers like Harry Belafonte, Johnny Mathis, Roger Whittaker and many Broadway musical soundtracks.
With a love for adventure, Ernie and Carole enjoyed traveling across the United States. Memorable destinations were Mt. Rushmore, Gettysburg, and San Diego. Together they enjoyed many sunsets over the sparkling waters of Lake Manitou while floating around on their pontoon. Winter brought snowmobiling expeditions on the trails in Pure Michigan. When she was relaxing, always at her side were her treasured canine companions, Mitzi and Butch, the Boston Terriers she adored.
Carole is lovingly remembered by sons Lance S. Young and wife Becky, Rochester, Shawn Foster Young and wife Jasmin, Pasadena, Md., and Mark Samuel Dibble and wife Claire, Johns Creek, Ga.;
daughters Melinda Anne Coomes and husband Thomas, North Liberty, and Michelle Susanne Kaylan and husband Howard, Seattle, Wash; seven grandchildren: Tom Coomes, Haley Coomes, Mike Dibble, Shaun Dibble, Jacky Young and husband Eric, Samantha Shawyer and husband Joshua, and Jacob Young; a sister, Susan Hall of Westfield, PA; a sister-in-law, Judy Taylor of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Carole in death are her parents and her beloved husband Ernie on
March 15
, 2017, and the Boston Terriers of her heart, Mitzi and Butch
.
Pastor Mike Van Heyningen will officiate services.
Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
