Carol Hunter Melton, 70, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on Saturday, May 26, at 9:13 a.m. at home. Carol was the loving daughter of Melvin and Betty Wallace Hunter born on February 10, 1942. Growing up she shared her childhood with two sisters, Barb and Melva, and two brothers, David and Steve. A postal carrier professional, Carol worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 20 years retiring in the mid- 1990's. After her retirement she worked for Experience Works, and as a driver for Fulton County Transpo. A mixologist of extraordinary drinks, Carol served thirst quenching concoctions as bartender at the Dugout, American Legion and the Manitou V.F.W. A devoted member of the 1st Baptist Church, Carol also held membership with the ladies auxillaries of the Leroy Shelton American Legion Post, the Manitou V.F.W. and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Carol was gifted and enjoyed craft projects. Her forte' was using gourds and creating colorful snowmen to decorate the home with a wintry theme. She shared her talents with family and friends by making gifts for special occasions. Her birdhouse gourds were also a highly sought treasure. Enjoying the outdoors, Carol fed and observed her backyard friends: domestic birds and deer. Protecting the innocent she would chase away the opossums and squirrels. To relax she read novels and romance. Her favorite author was Nora Roberts. Keeping mentally sharp, Carol enjoyed the challenges of cryptograms and crossword puzzles. The warmth of spring brought Carol to her flower gardens. She enjoyed adding a touch of color to the landscape that surrounded her home. Carol is lovingly remembered by two daughters: Denise and husband Chris Coffing of Macy, Merry Coleman of Rochester; two sons: Joe and wife Stacy Gamble of Rochester, and Andrew Coleman of Florida; five grandchildren: Trevor Hoagland and wife Kourtney, Chelsey Coleman and companion Don Barley, Joey, Jake and Jared Gamble. She is also remembered by two sisters: Barb Hunter of Macy, Melva Hunter of Macy; and a brother Steve and wife Carrie Hunter of Rochester; and her loving canine companion Willie Wall, an Australian Shepherd. Preceding her in death are her parents, a daughter Pauline Shanabarger, a brother David Hunter and sister - in - law Loraine Hunter. Dr. Mark Spencer will officiate services. Carol will be laid to eternally rest in the family plot at the Hamlet Cemetery, northeast of Rochester.
