Mr. Robert K. "Bob" Winterrowd 76, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 7:25 a.m., on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at his home. Bob was born on August 1, 1935 in Argos to George and Hazel Garner Winterrowd. As one of five children, Bob grew up with a sister Jacksie and three brothers Ronald, Garry and Robin. During Bob's high school years he enjoyed many good times. He was a proud charter member of the Rochester High School Future Farmers of America. Life was good helping his dad farm from atop the Minneapolis - Moline. He was once was connected with a prank and the appearance of a stinky dead skunk neatly hidden amidst crumpled papers, in a study hall desk top. Bob and seven accomplices plotted and on the second attempt were successful with emptying the study hall creating a stink. Janitor Pop Haggerty dragged the desk outside and burned it as too many odiferous scents had been released. It was a Y-Teens, Sadie Hawkins hayride, on September 25, 1952, when Bob shared a date with a beautiful young lady named Karen Ann Westwood. From then on they were a couple. On October 3, 1954 in Rochester's Trinity United Methodist Church Bob married his best friend and the love of his life Karen. Almost 60 years together they shared life's adventures. They are the proud parents of a handsome son Jeff and three beautiful daughters Jennifer, Julie and Jody. The family tree grew over the years with the additions of five wonderful grandchildren. A devoted member of the Burton - Richland Center United Methodist Church, Bob was also a member of the I.B.E.W. for 40 years receiving his 40 year pin a few weeks ago. He was also a member of the union local #668. Bob was also dedicated to the 5th U.S. Army Reserves for eight years as a young man. Bob acquired his dedicated work ethic as a young man. With diverse interests and many talents he began his career as a welder for Bernard Schrome with the building and erection of communication towers. He later worked for Everett Richhart and Ralph Mull. When working for Mull he plummeted 50 feet from a tower breaking his arm and a leg, and living to tell about it. Next he worked with Harley Denton and Denton Electric. Later he enjoyed a stint with Burton Mechanical Contractors. Overseeing many construction projects relative to the electrical work, Bob served as foreman on the retro-fitting of the Fulton County Courthouse and County Office Building projects, Woodlawn Hospital, a jail at Williamsport and schools at Mentone Elementary, Covington and Veedersburg to name a few. Embracing the outdoors, Bob especially enjoyed the heat and warmth of the summer. It was summertime that brought on the garden pest, moles. Bob perfected techniques and with the greatest patience he awaited the rodent and captured it with a direct hit each time. To some known as Mr. Mole, Bob shared his secrets of capturing the pests. An avid collector he accumulated a treasured milk glass collection along with many "Tigger," collectables from Disney's Winnie the Pooh. Bob, a family man, was totally devoted with a lifetime of dedication to his wife and children. During their youth he served as coach for minor league and little league baseball. He enjoyed traveling and vacationing with Karen and she remembers with trips to the United Kingdom. Their first trip is when they discovered the essence and beauty of the English flower gardens. On their return home he and Karen transformed their yard to an English garden like those found across the pond. Their gardens emitted such radiant beauty that they opened the gardens for summer tours so others could enjoy the exploding color that was aesthetically pleasing to the eye. In more recent years Bob took up woodworking. He crafted custom creations as gifts for the kids for Christmas and their birthdays. He treasured the opportunities he had to share his expertise with his kids on projects they needed assistance. Weenie was a nickname given to Bob back in his days as a RHS Zebra. It stuck with him for life and he so enjoyed it that, if you were loved by Bob you were addressed with a special nickname created by him. The kids and grandchildren all garnered special nicknames and other close friends. The winter time blues was solved as he and Karen enjoyed a family tradition of putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Bob also looked forward to cheering for Sam and Kelsey at their athletic events and school concerts. Bob is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Karen at home; a son, Jeff "Ace" Winterrowd and wife Michelle of Rochester; 3 daughters: Jenny "Stubby" Adams and husband Andy, and their children Kelsey and Samuel of Rochester, Julie "Porkchop" Bruessel and husband Jim and their children Jordyn Caudle and Jarrad Bruessel of Medford, MN, and Jody "Pee-Wee" Winterrowd and her son Ryder Winterrowd of Kokomo; a sister Jacksie Reiken and husband Jim of Mentone; two brothers: Garry J. Winterrowd of Daytona Beach, Florida and Robin Winterrowd of Warsaw. Preceding him in death was his parents, a brother Ronnie Winterrowd, and his loyal and devoted canine companions, Spud the terrier blend and Lion, a long haired Dachshund - Scottish terrier mix. Pastor Don Nunemaker will officate services. Interment will be in Rochester's IOOF cemetery.
