Mrs. Betty J. Hazlett, 81, of Rochester was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at her home. Born on December 26, 1931, in Delta, Ohio, Betty was the precious daughter to Sidney Floyd and Bertha Grace Apple Shipman. Growing up she was the eleventh child of fourteen children. She shared her childhood with seven brothers and six sisters. In May of 1949, with great pride Betty graduated from Fulton Central High School, Fulton ,OH. Don and Betty met sharing a ride home from church camp at Indian Lake, Ohio. Betty and Donald Meryl Hazlett best friends and soul mates were married on December 1, 1950 in Delta , OH. Their union spanned nearly 59 years and together they raised seven children, 4 daughters and five sons. The family tree grew with the added blessings of 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Betty was a loyal and devoted member of the Church of the Nazarene. Many Sundays she accompanied the congregational singing. She greatly enjoyed playing the piano and organ for personal enjoyment in her home. Betty was also an account executive with the Shipman Advertising Firm. Betty is lovingly remembered by four daughters: Alicia Glover and companion David Case Sr. of Wauseon, OH; Pamela Al-Wotaid, and husband Abduuah of Kuwait; Patricia Hazlett, of Wauseon, OH; Lisa Burton and husband Roger of Minneapolis, MN; three sons : Stephan Hazlett of Boise, ID; Kevin Hazlett and wife Laura of Rochester; Eric Hazlett and wife Corazon of Evansville; 18 grandchildren: Cheryl Mack & husband Mike, Samantha Melms and companion Brian Hansen, Katy Carouthers and husband Calvin, Alyssa Hazlett and fiancé Andres Rocha, Lauriel Birchmeier and husband Kevin, Meghan Hazlett, Amanda Hazlett and companion Joshua Runkle, Kaleb Hazlett, Alexandra Burton, Jessica Burton, Miriam, Hazlett, Stephen John Hazlett, Robert Glover and wife April, Justin Glover and wife Casey, Carl Melms and wife Heidi and Eric "Adam" Hazlett, Steven Newton and Katelyn Newton; 19 great grandchildren; four sisters: Marjorie Clark, June Ballentine, Ruth Schoonover, Freda Morgan; two brothers, Don Shipman, Phil Shipman and nieces and nephews. Preceding Betty in death are her parents, husband Don on October 22, 2000; twin sons: Dennis Meryl and Donald Mark in 1953; 2 sisters: Dorothy Elton and Phylis Mock, and 5 brothers: twins Alva and Alvin, Vernon, Marvin and Sydney Shipman. Pastor Don Meyer will officiate services.
