Mrs. Betty L. Harper, 82, of Rochester passed away at 11:42 p.m. on January 26th at St Vincent's Heart Care Center of Indianapolis. Betty was the precious daughter of Lester and Chloe Floyd. As one of seven children, growing up on the farm, she shared her childhood with four sisters and two brothers. In 1950, with great pride she graduated from Macy High School. On March 28, 1953, in Akron with the Reverend Slaybaugh presiding, Betty married her best friend Arthur L. "Art" Harper. Their loved and devotion to each other spanned nearly 60 years. Together they raised a son Donald and a daughter Sharon. The family tree flourished with the added blessings of 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. As the matriarch of the family, Betty loved the visits of the grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She is remembered as an extraordinary seamstress, many times creating shirts, dresses and curtains. Grandma Betty was best known for her gifts of warmth, especially custom created pajamas complete with feet. Enjoying the outdoors in earlier years, Betty planted flower gardens that enhanced the landscape of her home. She especially used petunias, one of her favorites and of course the holidays brought about the cherished poinsettia. To keep sharp---Betty enjoyed the challenges of crossword puzzles. Betty is lovingly remembered by her husband Arthur at home; a daughter Sharon Bockover and husband Kevin of Twelve Mile; a son Donald Harper of Rochester; 3 sisters: Della Wilson of South Bend, Ruth Carrithers and husband Brice of Peru, and Aretha Mills of Rochester; a brother David Floyd and wife Kathy of Nyona Lake; 9 grandchildren: Cody Bockover, Kristina Bockover, Melisha Rensberger, Elijah Harper, Ashlee Harper, Adrial Harper, Jon - Tae Harper, Patrick Card and Brittney Card; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents, a brother Dale Floyd, a sister Grace Mills, and a daughter-in-law Delberta "Dee" Harper. She will be laid to eternally rest on the family plot in the Akron Cemetery.
