Barbara Marie Smith, 83, of Leiters Ford, passed away at 11:40 AM on Tuesday, November 29 , 2016 in Rock Hill, SC.   Barbara was born April 11 , 1933 in DeLong.  Predeceasing her are her parents, Raymond and Abbie Chapman Thomas, her only sibling, Keith Thomas and a grandson Rick Pac.

After graduation from Leiters Ford High School in 1951, Barbara was employed for two years in the office of the Ball Band Plant of Mishawaka.   On February 15 , 1952, she married the love of her life, Robert Wayne Smith and this union lasted 63 years until his death on May 30 , 2015.

She was a stay –at-home Mom eleven years for their three sons. Barbara returned to the work force in 1963, this time at the Multi-Graphic printing Company of South Bend and retired from there after 25 years in 1988. They lived on Mayflower Road in South Bend and were members of the Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church. Upon retirement they moved back to Leiters Ford  and brought their church membership back to Leiters Ford United Methodist Church. Twenty winters were spent at Villa Del Sol of Avon Park, FL

For a number of years Barbara was the secretary/treasurer of the Leiters Ford-Aubbeenaubbee Alumni Association. She also was president of the WSCS group at church; a member of the Golden Key Home Extension Club of Culver and for over sixty years had played Scrabble once a month at the Scrabble Club of South Bend.

Left to mourn her passing are her children Daniel Lee and wife Mary Jo of Mishawaka, Robert Alan of Houston, TX, Paul Wayne and wife Betsy of Rock Hill, SC.; six grandchildren: Dawn Feece,  Deann Lanz, Kelly Hayes, Jacob Smith, Jeff Smith, Brooke Smith;  10 great grandchildren: Sydney, Shelby, Alex, Max, Jenna, Olivia, Zachary, Wyatt, Mason, Carter; two great great grandsons: Logan and Weston; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pastor Nancy Foster will officiate services. Interment will be in the Leiters Ford Cemetery.
