Obituary

Barbara Ann Floyd Howard DePoy, 81, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 11:45 PM, Monday, January 20th, at her home. On September 29, 1932, Barbara Ann Floyd was born in Miami County to Ross Emery and Mary Marie Ward Floyd. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister Marcella and a brother Glen. She was very proud to be a member of the Macy High School class of 1950. Barbara and Gerald Allen DePoy were married on February 25, 1978 in the Talma United Methodist Church. Together they shared over thirty five years of life's adventures. An avid bowler, Barbara bowled in several leagues over the years at Quick's Lanes. She was also delighted to participate in the lady kegler state tournaments. For a number of years she worked at Torin - Brookside (Lau Industries), where she was a member of the UAW # 947. Annually Gerald and Barbara planted a beautiful truck patch garden. Each autumn they harvested a bountiful crop to share with family and special friends. They also froze and canned the veggies for winter enjoyment. Each spring Barbara planted many perennials to enhance the beauty of the landscape. Among the plants was over 200 irises, her favorite flower. Plymouth Speedway beckoned her family as she thoroughly enjoyed cheering for the boys as they raced stock cars. She and Gerald looked forward to summer weekends when they camped at Yogi Bear Campground. As the proud matriarch of the family, Barbara oversaw four generations. Her most treasured memories were of family gatherings at the holidays and special family events. Grandma Barbara also held a special place in her heart, looking forward to visits from her grandchildren and the great-grandchildren. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her husband, Gerald; 4 daughters: Teresa Howard Friedman of Jasper, Christina Lewis Miller of Rochester, Tammy Lynn DePoy Utter and husband Bill of Athens, Melissa Kay DePoy Artist of Rochester; 4 sons: Ricky Ray Howard and wife Rebecca of Rochester, Timmy Carl Howard and wife Betty Ann of Tippecanoe, David Michael Howard of Macy, Todd Allen Howard and wife Deborah of Rochester; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 canine companions: Lilly, a red Dachshund and Gabby, a black Dachshund and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Barbara in death are her parents, a great grandson, a sister Marcella Latta, a brother Glen Floyd, a brother-in-law Charles Latta. Chaplain Jason See will officiate servcies. Interment will be in the Akron Cemetery.
