Mrs. Barbara Ann Conley, 73, of Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 8:35 PM, Monday, October 8th, 2012 at home. Barbara, the precious daughter of Garland and Rene Wallace Penley, was born in Poinsett Co. Arkansas, on July 16, 1939. Growing up, she shared her childhood as one of twelve children, seven brothers and four sisters, being the 4th oldest. On May 6, 1961, Barbara and Kenneth E. Conley were married in Chicago. Their union of over 51 years produced a daughter Angel and four sons: Kevin, Harold, Kenneth and Billy. Over the years the family tree grew with the added blessings of 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The Conleys, a musically talented family, entertained at a variety of locales around northern Indiana a number of years ago. Barbara was a vocalist while Ken and their sons provided instrumental accompaniment. Known as the Ramrods, a country rock band, they once did a 53 week consecutive stint at Roseland's American Legion. They also provided music in Rochester, Argos, South Bend and Mishawaka. At home in the kitchen, Barbara is remembered for extraordinary culinary skills. Her biscuits and gravy were second to none. Other specialty dishes of great demand were her corn bread dressing, German chocolate cake and coconut cream pie. She also was a proud owner of a unique collection of angels. To relax, Barbara enjoyed video poker, Angry Birds and going out for a sandwich with Ken. Paramount in her life was her family; there was nothing better than spending time with the the kids and grandchildren, treasuring the memories they made together. Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband Kenneth; a daughter, Angel Townsend and husband Lonny of Lafayette; 3 sons: Kevin Lyn Conley and wife Angie of Macy, Harold Dewight Conley of TN, Kenneth Dale Conley and wife Angie of TN; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Freitag and husband Sig; 5 brothers: Virgil Penley, Gene Penley, Larry Penley & wife Terri, Carl Penley, and Jimmy Penley. Barbara was welcomed to Heaven by her father Garland Penley, her mother Rene Leitz, a daughter Darlene Sarter, a son Billy D. Conley, 3 sisters: Melba Dean Smith and Peggy Sue Penley and Patricia Penley, both in infancy, and 2 brothers: Harold Penley and Jerry W. Penley. Many other extended family members and friends were there to greet her. Pastors Gary Gilbert and Lonny Townsend will officiate services. Interment will be in the Citizens Cemetery, Rochester.
