Mrs. Barbara E. Briney, 59, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly at 3:55 PM on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at her residence. On August 16, 1955, Barbara was born in Rochester the cherished daughter of John and Elnora Tyler Sayger. Growing up she shared her childhood with two brothers, Tim and Ronnie. In 1973, with great Zebra pride, she graduated with her class from Rochester High School. Michael E. Briney and Barbara were married on September 18, 1976 in The First Christian Church of Rochester. They shared 38 years of life's adventures. Their union produced a beautiful daughter, Heather. Another generation was added to the family tree with the arrival of two grandchildren. For many years Barbara and Michael oversaw a fine herd of 40 sows including Durocs, black and white spots and Hampsire. They raised the baby pigs to fat hogs then marketing them. Each spring she planted a large garden, freezing and canning the bountiful harvest each fall. Paramount in Grandma Barbara's life were her grandchildren. To relax she enjoyed a unique variety of solitaire games. Barbara is lovingly remembered by her husband Michael; daughter Heather Briney of Rochester; two grandchildren: Cheyenne and Dakota Lindsley; parents John and Elnora Sayger of Rochester; two brothers: Tim Sayger and wife Linda of Rochester, Ronnie Sayger and wife Tina of Rochester; two sister-in-laws: Kim Caudill and husband Kevin of Rochester, Joyce Hassenplug and husband Charlie of Rochester; nieces and nephews: Makaila and Abby Caudill, Ed Hassenplug, Missy Kowal and husband Rob, Kara Martindale, Katelyn Sayger, Nicholas Sayger, Rebecca Rude, Laura Calvert; and her canine companion Peanut, a brindle, black and tan Chihuahua. Pastor Bob Metzger will officiate services. Interment will be in the Richland Center Cemetery.
