On April 9 , 1930, Arthur Leroy Harper was born in Akron.  He was a treasured son of  George L and Mildred G. Shriver Harper.  As one of the eight Harper children, Art shared his childhood with five brothers and two sisters.  As a flyer, Art graduated from Akron High School in 1950.

When patriotism beckoned, Art answered the call serving our country as a member of the United  States Army during the Korean War.  Private 1st Class Arthur L. Harper was a member of Company G, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division.  He was wounded in action on September 19 , 1951 near Hill 127, Korea.  He was honorably discharged on April 30 , 1952, earning the Purple Heart, combat infantry badge and Korean service medal. On October 27 , 2014,  Art was honored as a member of the Korean War Veteran's  Honor Flight, originating in Lafayette.

Art and Betty Lou Floyd were married on March 28 , 1953 in Akron. They shared 60 years of life's adventures.  From their union came two wonderful children, Don and Sharon.  The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.

Left to cherish  Art's memory are a daughter, Sharon Bockover and husband Kevin of Twelve Mile; a son, Donald Harper, of Rochester; nine grandchildren: Cody Bockover, Kristina Bockover, Melisha Rensberger, Elijah Harper, Ashlee Harper, Adrial Harper, Jon-Tae Harper, Patrick Card, Brittney Card;  13 great-grandchildren; sister Geraldine Shearer of Bourbon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Art in death are his parents George and Mildred Harper;  beloved wife Betty on January 26 , 2013; daughter-in-law, Delberta "Dee" Harper; sister Jolane Futrell; and  the five Harper brothers: infant Richard, Paul, Edward, Merle and George Jr.

A celebration of the life of Arthur L Harper will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday. January 30 , 2020, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18 ^th St., Rochester. Veterans Service Officer Ric Foust will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM  on Wednesday, January 29 , 2020 and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team.

Interment will be in the Akron Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Fulton County Veterans DAV Van, % Veteran's Service Office 815 Main Street, Rochester, IN  46975
