Obituary

Arlen Leroy Hammond, 87, formerly of Rochester passed away at 6:59 PM on Friday, February 10 , 2017 at his residence in Granger.
On January 19 , 1930 Arlen was born in Rochester. He was the treasured son of Lloyd Merle and Fern Pauline Braman Hammond. Proudly he graduated with the Class of 1947 from Rochester High School.
Patriotism beckoned and Arlen served our country with the US Army during the Korean War.   He was honorably discharged in 1953.
On September 10 , 1950 in Rochester , Arlen married the love of his life, Joan Ilene Thomas . From their union came two beautiful daughters.
As a member of the Union Local # 18 in South Bend, Arlen was a respected and skilled craftsman in the area of masonry.  His expertise not only included brick but stone as well.  He was a life member of the Mishawaka VFW.
Arlen will be lovingly remembered by a daughter Teri Joy, of South Bend; son in law John Likes of Mishawaka; six grandchildren:  Tara Joy-Valpatic and husband Brent, Tianna Johnson and husband Jim, Tonnya Joy, Trisha Joy, Stacy Likes, Shawn Likes and wife Julie; two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and  a sister, Shirley Gates, of Florida.
Preceding Arlen in death are his parents; beloved wife Joan on May 2 , 2001; daughter Tina Likes on July 16 , 2014; and an infant great great grandson, Johnnie Ray Likes.

Private family services were held at the Good Family Funeral Home of Rochester. Military Rites were conducted by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the US Army Honor Team.  Interment was in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 230 W. Catalpa Dr., Suite D, Mishawaka, IN  46545-8322 .
