Annabelle Susan Hart, 80, 2077 Second St., Tiosa, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Sunday at her residence. She was born in South Bend on Sept. 3, 1930, to Vernon and Eleanor (Cauffman) Gelbaugh. She shared her childhood with her brother, Richard. Annabelle lived in the Rochester area all of her life. Her parents moved to Fulton County when she was 3 days old. She was the oldest in Tiosa, living there longer than anyone she knew. On Dec. 2, 2006, Annabelle had to say goodbye to her husband of 56 years. However, even after his death, Glenn still lived in her heart. Annabelle shared her memory of their first date. "A group of girls and I had just returned from the Tulip Festival in Holland, Mich. Glenn Hart saw me out in the yard and called me for a date that evening. After a four-month courtship, we were married on Sept. 30, 1950, in Kewanna." From their union came three sons, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her family was very important to her. She displayed their pictures throughout her home. A treasured Christmas gift was a framed family tree given to her by her grandchildren. Through the years Annabelle had a career as well as a family. After her marriage, she worked at the radio factory in Rochester. Her favorite memories took place while working at the Rochester High School cafeteria for 13 years. She also worked in the kitchen at the sale barn on Saturdays. Annabelle loved to cook and really enjoyed talking to the high school students. Following Glenn and Annabelle's retirement, they formed a lawn mowing business which they helped the senior ladies keep their yards in tiptop condition, while barely making a charge to cover their gas, as it was therapeutic and exercise for them, along with a way to enjoy each others company. Annabelle was always there for everyone, the word "no" was not in her vocabulary. A favorite hobby was trying out new recipes. She liked to make many different kinds of cookies, but the family's favorite was chocolate chip. Annabelle's roots are very deep. "I've always loved Rochester, It's home to me. That's why I've stayed for so many years." Much of Annabelle's life story was authored by Laurie Lechlinter last fall. Annabelle is lovingly remembered by three sons, Ed Hart and wife Susan, Warsaw, Rick Hart and wife Susan, Mentone, and Jim Hart and wife Cindy, Elkhart; five grandchildren, Jennifer Cobbs, Liz Kelley, Aaron Hart, Gretchen Wadkins, and Wes Hart; 11 great-grandchildren with another due to arrive in June; sister-in-law Ruth Gelbaugh; and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother Richard Gelbaugh. A celebration of the life of Annabelle Hart is at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Revs. Mike Beezley and Randy Smoot officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Annabelle will be laid to eternal rest next to her beloved husband Glenn in the Richland Center IOOF Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Talma United Methodist Church.
