Ann
Johnson
Jul 8, 1934 — Oct 16, 2026
Former Rochester resident, Ann Johnson, 92, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away peacefully at 1:20 PM on Friday, October 16, 2026, at her Florida home .
On July 8 , 1934, Ann was born in Rochester. She was the first-born daughter of Jerry and Mary Alice Shonk Metzler. Growing up, she shared her childhood with a younger sister, Linda. With great Zebra pride she graduated with the Rochester High School class of 1952.
Ann married her high school sweetheart, Lamar Johnson, on August 22, 1952, in Rochester's Church of the God parsonage. Rev. Lloyd E. Powell officiated. Together they enjoyed over 64 years of life's adventures. From their union came two wonderful children, Alan and Marianne. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The crispy autumn air beckoned snowbirds, LaMar and Ann to commence travel south. Sunny Florida was their winter home for more than two decades. It was here that they relaxed fishing and playing shuffleboard. More recently Ann made it her permanent home being close to her son Alan.
Paramount in Ann's life was her family. As the matriarch of the Johnson clan, Grandma adored her grandchildren and the greats. She cherished their visits, the holidays, and family celebrations. "Grandma J" thoughtfully made certain everyone received a birthday card with some cash enclosed to help celebrate their special day. Ann was also delighted to get together with the amazing Zebras from the Class of 1952 at reunions, lunches and gatherings.
Left to cherish Ann's memory are a son, Alan Johnson and wife Diane of Florida; a son-in-law Steve Moore and wife Mary Ann of Rochester; a sister Linda Marquardt; six grandchildren: Tiffany Brooks and husband Steven "Tivo", Natalie Smith and husband Trevor, Brody Moore and wife Jeni, Amy Jo Sanchez and husband Mike, Chad Johnson and wife Amy, Casey Johnson and wife Carrie; 14 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Pearley F. Jewell and husband Walter of Rancho Mirage, CA; several nieces and nephews; Pace, the grand-dog Jack Russell; also the treasured members of the RHS class of 1952 and the many friends she made along life's journey.
Preceding Ann in death is her husband Lamar Johnson on October 14, 2016, parents Jerry and Mary Alice Metzler; a daughter, Marianne Moore on November 27 , 2009; a sister-in-law, Mable I. Barnes; and Elle Mae, the black "perfect poodle".
A celebration of life will be held on a date to be announced.
