Former Rochester and Marshall County resident, Mr. Alfred E. "Pat" Parkhurst, 100 years, 4 months and 3 days, departed this life, in Sebring, Florida on Monday, October 12, 2020.
In Argos, on June 9, 1920, Alfred was born. He was the treasured son of Arthur E. and Mary Ruth Dennie Parkhurst. Growing up he shared his childhood with a sister, Alice.
Pat married the love of his life, E. Lorraine Pence on December 17, 1940 in Plymouth. They shared 62 years of life's adventures. From their union came a wonderful son Tom. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of two more generations.
Serving in the US Army during World War II, Pat was a member of the European Theater, with the 90th Division, 358th Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1945. During his service stint he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries on D-Day 1943 in France.
The Parkhurst's lived in the Marshall and Fulton County communities until moving in 1990 to Lake Placid, FL.
After 37 ½ years Pat retired from McCord Corp. in 1982. While living in Indiana he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Rochester. He was a member of the Lake Placid United Methodist Church in Florida. Other memberships include, The International Order of Odd Fellows of Rochester, The Veterans of Foreign Wars of Plymouth and the American Legion of Lake Placid.
Left to cherish Pat's memory are his daughter-in-law, Shirley Reese Parkhurst of Plymouth; two grandsons: Barry E. Parkhurst and wife Beth of Columbus, Bradley E. Parkhurst and wife Monica of Plymouth; great-grandchildren: Allie Castetter and husband Trint of Columbus, Adam Parkhurst of Indianapolis, Nathan Parkhurst of Indianapolis, Morgan Parkhurst of Columbus, Thomas Evan Parkhurst of Greenwood, Alex Parkhurst of Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Pat in death are his parents Arthur Parkhurst in 1956 and Mary Ruth Dennie Parkhurst in 1995 , beloved wife, Lorraine on February 6, 2002, son Thomas E. Parkhurst on November 27, 1981 and sister Alice Shenefield in 1997.
A graveside service celebrating the life of Alfred "Pat" Parkhurst will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team. Pastor Kurt Nichols will officiate.
